Hi all, My name is marie and I live in Custer, SD, right in the Black Hills. MY boyfriend and i hunt pronghorn, whitetail, mule deer, turkey, rabbit, prairie chicken and process them all on our dining room table. We make our own summer sausage, burger, bratwurst, and I also can venison-2 years ago I canned 69 pints of venison. We have been using shotguns and rifles, but this year we are also starting with muzzleloaders. We are looking forward to hunting this year. We will be hunting this fall starting the end of September for pronghorn, than fall turkey starting October 1st, 2008-January 31st, 2009. Our rifle deer season is November1st-November 30th, 2008. Then muzzleloader deer season is the second week of December, 2008-January 31st, 2009. After that we will be off to a wild Russian Boar hunt the second week of February, 2009. We were invited on this hunt of a lifetime by my boyfriend's son and daughter-in-law.

Welcome Marie. I live in southwestern Michigan not too far from Kalamazoo and get out in your area at least once a year on our trip deer hunting in Wyoming. If I were to move anywhere it would be in the Black Hills where you are or on over in northcentral Wyoming around the BigHorns. I have been out on several Merriams hunts and taken a couple nice longbeards between Custer and north of the Park towards Mt. Rushmore. In fact, every time we are in the area we camp just outside Custer right next to the scout camp at Bismark Lake. I envy you, as it is absolutely gorgeous country where you live!

Howdy and welcome to you and your boy friend. Was out there pheasant hunting last fall at the Dakot hot spots lodge and just loved it. Will try to draw a mule deer tag this year as my son lives in Souix Falls and we will hunt together.

thank you all for the warm welcome. hopefully we will get into bow hunting in the future, i really want to. my boyfriend (who started me hunting when we moved here) says he has "created a monster" but he doesn't mind since he has gotten in more hunting since we've been together than in the previous 20 years(his ex-wife would not let him hunt or own a gun though she wanted some sausage from his first buck(he told her "heck no"). it was my idea to try muzzleloading when i found out about the extra 7 weeks of hunting that we have here.
