Congratulations!  I had a huge cougar within 75 yards of me out in Wyoming in 2007, but no tag!  They are a beautiful animal!!!

I know where there are plenty of cats, but unfortunately the tree huggers voted that hounds weren't ethical in Oregon.

hey
sounds interesting
when is the season?
We cougars here...but they are protected.
I had a cougar catching 125lb lambs & carrying them down through the ravines 3/4 of a mile to eat them in a thicket.  I sold the stupid sheep!!!

I haven't looked @ it yet, but this week's video from ND G&F is on our lion season of '08-'09 ... we don't have a lot of cats, but they bother the ranchers (and some folks who have horses in their back yard, too) so they opened a season a few years ago ... a quota of eight lions is in the prime habitat, and when #8 is taken, that season closes, but the rest of the state can hunt lions with no quota until about the end of March ... most of six months for a season ...

Sorry, don't have the link handy, but if interested, go to their webpage and check the weekly video ...

Also can't recall if NRs can hunt here, but all we need is a furbearer tag ... no units, no drawing, OTC licenses for us, and thru the G&F office for NRs, IF they can hunt here ...

We had a foto floatin' around the state on the 'net a couple of months ago, of three lions on a deer carcass, taken in Nov. or Dec. around Williston, which is outside of the "quota" area, but nobuddy seemed to be able to find 'em ... no lions taken this year outside the quota unit, but there have been in other years ...

We have panthers down here in Florida, they are endangered and off-limits to hunters.  Of course there are thousands of two legged cougars in the clubs/bars down here and I recommend staying clear of them as well

Arizona tags are over the counter and about $150 bucks. and the season is year-round. Have a buddy that goes there almost yearly! I went with for a couple of days one year. I'd out some pics here but it keeps saying they are too big. Utah has over the counter here too but there are a bunch of stipulations(Harvest objectives) and the season goes from Mid Feb till the Quota tags for the area are filled.

That's a cool foto!

Monte ... I kinda glanced @ the furbearer NR dealie when I wuz scoutin' the deer info earlier today ... seems as if (IIRC) that the NR price isn't too bad, and some folks run dogs ... at least they did a couple of years ago ... but that might've changed ...

If you've got your own dogs, that's somthin' I could prolly steer you towards ... I know the ranchers in the SW corner of Nodak would love to have folks come out and eradicate the cats ... but I dunno about them havin' any dogs to help ...

Wow, that's kinda like hunting over a double bait.

O,  If you have the property, Icould probably get the hounds. I have a few guys back in Wis. that want to hunt cats out this way.

No, guys ... I do NOT "have" the property ... but I do know a fair number of ranchers out in the prime lion area of Nodak (since I've been huntin' out there for most of the last 30 years) ... I can visit a few of 'em and see if there's any cats around, and how they'd feel about hunters with dogs comin' in to chase 'em ... I know for a fact that if anyone can kill 'em, the ranchers will be happy about it ... merely dunno about the question of dogs in pursuit ... (also hafta check to see if the ND G&F changed the rules on that style of hunt) ...

There's also a LOT of public land out there, but the cattle and pasture situation would be a deciding factor on huntin' with dogs, I'd guess ...
