RE: mountain lion hunt - Friday, January 08, 2010 10:49 PM ( #101 )
I just talked to my stepson. I asked him if he was interested and he is if he can get away. He is going into the service this spring and I thought it would be a good trip to take him on.

Dan, If we hunt in the Bozeman to Bigtimber area I could probably hunt a couple or 3 days before the superbowl. In that area I can comute. Didn't you shoot yours last year near Bigtimber? I also have a 4 wheeler if we need it. Wish I had a sled.

Did he say what dates are good for him? If he still plans on coming, make your plans around him and I'll just try and squeeze in. Jan. 27,28.29, & 30, Feb. 4,5,6. Are about all that would work for me. Unless we go for late Feb.
i still don't know what I'll do with it if I do get one. A fuull mount in the pounce position would be cool. and then put it on one of the log beams at the cabin in Wis. Pretty pricey though.

Well we did have the hunt. No cats. Didn't even get to release the hounds. I only hunted one day with the boys but it was fun. Dan and Monty got to go for a few days. They prolly got a few more coments. We figger on trying it again next year and being a little more organized.

Glad y'all had fun, 'rik ... we had a sorta "interesting" development here in Nodak ...

The Reservations have their "Sovereign Nation" status, so they had their own version of lion hunting seasons ... two or three cats taken north of here, across the big lake ... also talked to a guy a couple of weeks ago, and he watched a lion VERY near to a small town on our side of the lake, just west of the dam ... he sails, doesn't hunt, but has a spotting scope, and had a pleasant day of observing the critter ... it wuz in a "No Hunting" zone, but plenty of opportunities for it to move around lookin' for food and such, so we might have a chance next fall ...

Hey guys!  I know Monty had fun even though you didn't run any cats.  I hope we can all get together for the next one, as that is still in my "to do" agenda before I croak, LOL!

Just that one day of running around got me all pumped to run my hounds again. I've been searching my but off for a place to buy where I can have hounds. I'll just have to be satisfied with running Skeeter down the road for now.

yeah, I remmember when you put that thing down for comparison. Thats the orange gate cat. Too bad we couldn't put down on it. That huge track you found the day before would have been nice to run. Looking forward to this season. Hope ya'll can make it. Hope I can make it.
