I shoot the Hoyt Vectrix XL, which is the older brother of the Plus, and I absolutely love it!  I shot long axle-to-axle finger bows instinctively for many years before making the switch to sights, a release and the new Vectrix.  I am extremely happy with it.  It's fast, flat-shooting and deadly accurate!  However, it took me a few months to get the hang of shooting with a release and relying on sights instead of my eye.

The biggest hurdle for me was shooting a release.  I tried several models and finally settled on the Quickie 2 by Carter.  At first I thought I had made the wrong decision going from finger bows to the Vectrix, but after a year of shooting it I no longer question my decision nor do I look back on it.

Also, be VERY careful with your shoulder.  Do NOT rush things, especially after an injury.  I was in the same boat as you a few years ago, and I rushed my recovery and my shoulder hasn't been the same since!  It continues to give me problems, but I am able to work around and through the pain.  Best of luck to you.

Take care and Good Hunting!

Best Afield,

Steve

well the arm and shoulder are pretty messed up , went for testing in strength and range of motion, pretty much failed. bad enough that i qualified for a crossbow permit for wisc.. still waiting to see if i get one from mich..guess i'll be hunting with a crossbow this year. kinda bums me out though, i really like hunting with a compound, been doing that for well over 25 years, maybe even 30,. recurve before that.guess my age is showing now lol ! a crossbow just seems to me like shooting with a rifle.i'll know tomorrow for sure what's going on seeing a specialist in the morning , hopfully it won't be long term on getting it better! oh ya the wifes not too happy about spending money on a crossbow.i told her you only go around once in life, never know when your going to have to hang it up and sit on the sidelines and just watch! ----encore

Sorry to hear about you arm and shoulder.  I know your frustration well.  Back in 2004 or 2005 -- my memory is failing me -- I injured my shoulder doing a routine stretching exercise and my shoulder has not been the same since.  Talk about stupid!  There I was stretching my shoulder to increase flexibility before I started shooting my bow for the day and I wound up doing more harm to my shoulder than good!  Crazy!  I made things worse by continuing to shoot that day with obvious shoulder pain.  Don't EVER do that!  It just makes things WORSE!!  Now I'm paying for it.  At one point it got so bad that I couldn't pull my bow back an inch.  I, mean, not a single inch.  It was very frustrating.

Hopefully, your arm and shoulder will repair itself.  There are many exercises that you can do to strengthen this area.  Just look online under "Shoulder Pain".  There is a TON of information available to you.

Best of luck this season!

Take care and Good Hunting!

Congrats, bud!  I'm glad that you were able to get out and do some hunting.  Hopefully, you'll be able to heal up that shoulder of yours and you'll get out there with the bow again, but if you can't there's nothing wrong with using a crossbow so don't sweat it.

Best of luck with the healing process.

Take care and Good Hunting!
