Just wanted to say that I am willing to come down during deer season and shoot a big buck so that he doesn't eat all of it.  I wouldn't even charge you, that is a great deal HUH???

I planted peas a few years ago, saw a couple flower and that was it, Deer ate them to the ground.

Have two plots ready and working on a third which should be done today.  Then need to seed, drag, fertilize and lime them.  I put in soy beans (the kind that can grow up to 6ft) and millet as a cover crop. Very expensive for me, beans were 30 bucks a bag and the millet was 40 bucks a bag.  Will choose a different cover crop next time if the beans grow.  If not back to winter wheat in the plots this fall.  Try anything once.  There is some stuff Big Dawg recommend to keep deer out of the plots until you are ready for them to eat.

  Twerth,
How big a plot are you doing??  I'm thinking of doing something, I only have 8 (+/-) acres to play with.   I have private property on both sides & a State Park (bow only) on the backside, though.  So, I was thinking of doing something to attract the critters!!

shadow, an acre or two will be more than enough as long as you have something different on your place than anywhere else.  planting corn and beans for my plots this year.  the closest agriculture to me is miles away.  hoping this will bring them in.
when out bear hunting, make sure you are at least faster than the slowest person in your party!!!

  TLC,
Sounds about right as all I can see is grass (hay) in any "openings" around here!!  Thanks....

Alot of times it is just the place that stays green the longest, deer are animals and they just want to survive.

I have 5 food plots on the farm which is 160 acres of mostly woods.

I could have more but shoot cannot keep up with everything as it is.
I plant some in winter food plots and some in summer plots.  Some of them are the size of a house lot, some bigger.

This year in the summer plots which will last into Nov I have black hay beans which grow up to 6 feet with millet planted as a cover crop with them.  They have started to come up.  Planted 2 weeks ago.  Have a pie tin tied to a string between two fence posts to keep the deer out for a while.

I left a winter wheat plot in place and will do so for the summer, used to till it over in the spring after turkey season.  But left it this year, maybe it will help feed turkey and the few quail and one grouse I have seen around here.  I would like to increase the quail and grouse population but cannot seem to do so.

My three plots with the haybeans an millet are on the way up. Planted three weeks ago and they are doing there thing.  Hope the deer let them go until they get to produce.
