I'm trying for a trophy area in AZ, most guys who get drawn in this area usually have 6 or more points.

In PA, it could be as little as 0 points to 10 points depending on how many applications are submitted each year.  PA's drawing is random and having preference points doesn't necessarilly mean you'll get drawn, just means you have that many more applications submitted based on the number of popints you have.

Accumalating points is starting to cost some $. It use to not be to bad. What has happen is the states have seen a way of generating more $$ to cover their cost. Just like Wy, it is $50 a year to acc points for elk. If your app in several states you could have a boat load of money invested in points. car

I've hunted Wapiti pretty much in the state of Idaho since 2005 (Clearwater Region) and got an invite from a friend out in Wyoming to give it a shot in his neck of the woods.

I'm putting in for a PP this year, and then in 2009 I'm putting in for a second point plus the general tag application. He's has been hunting in area 94 and 102 (South Piney & West Green River) for the last couple of years but just to be safe I'm going general tag in case he decides to change up plans at the last minute. This way we can hunt just about anywhere together.

Terry---Thought I would just make sure you are aware that if you buy a PP this year, you will have that one PP for the 2009 draw, even though you also plan to buy another PP when you apply for the tag in 2009.  When you buy a PP it is not counted until the draw the following year if you apply for a tag.  If you do what you are saying and draw the tag next year, they would refund you the PP money you sent in in 2009.  Some are not aware of how that works.  The good news is that in 2007 (the first year PPs went into use) all nonresidents who applied for a general tag with 1 PP got the tag.  The odds are not out for the 2008 season draw yet.  I would imagine most people are saving their PPs for a particular unit, rather than a general tag, but I'm not sure.  The other thing I would mention is to make sure a general tag can be used if your friend wants to take you to areas other than 92 and 104.  Those are definitely on a general tag.   Good luck---MIKE in Allegan

Damn,... that's not how he explained it to me,.. but whatever happens happens I guess. As far as the general tag thing goes he specifically said to get that in case things change while I'm out there,... the general tag would allow me to move and hunt from area to area that allowed them. If I drew for a specific area and got it, that's the area I'd be stuck in,.. like it or not / good or bad. When I was reading through the Wyoming rules that's the way I had interpreted it also.
