Would just like your oppinions on the drop away rest that are out on the market now.
Looks like I'm going to get the new Diamond Iceman bow. And I'm kinda torn between
all the rest out there. Ripcord,G5, and the rest of them.
If anyone uses any let me know how and why you like it.
Thanks
Paul

I have a G-5 on my Tech Hunter and love it. It has helped improve my arruracy 10fold. I no longer get any arrows tailing when hitting the target. All of them are as parrallel as can be now. I also have a Trophy Taker Drop Away on my Diamond Rock, and it works great. Go for it.  I like the G-5 better than the other one.

I have a specially-made drop-away rest on my Hoyt Vectrix XL and I really love it.  I never have a problem with accuracy and my arrow normally stays put while hunting from a stand even in relatively high winds.  The rest is extremely well built and tough.  It's so well manufactured that it looks like it's actually part of the bow itself.

I know this particular company makes special rests for Hoyt, Mathews, PSE and now BowTech so you may want to look into these rests.  If you are interested, PM me and I'll give you the address for the company's web site.

Take care and Good Hunting!

I have the Ripcord, and love it. I had the Whisker Biscuit, but I didn't care for the loudness of the whiskers on cold mornings so I switched. I put some felt on the prongs of the Ripcord, and haven't had any problems with it at all. It's quick, quiet, and accurate.

I use the trophy taker myself. Not having used any others, I cannot compare them, but the trophy taker works well and is reliable. A drop away definately improves arrow flight. I would say that most any of the new models will work well for you.

good luck and congrats on your new bow!

Duck,
Yes it is the one made for Gander Mountain by BowTech. I just recently got the Diamond but so far I like it. It is shorter than my Tech Hunter, axle to axle, so may take a bit of getting used to. As far as a comparison, I can't  see any real diff. Both are fast and extremely quiet. They both have the hush kits on them. Both are real smooth in the rollover of the cams. I have the short S-coil stabilizers on them and you can barely feel any shock from the shot. For the price of either of these bows, you can't beat them. Whether it be the full pkg or bare bow. They are good bows and better bang for the buck. I think my Tech Hunter, I paid right at a bit over 600 for the pkg and I know that the Diamond at Gander is 399 bare, but you can get the pkg on it also. Beats the hell out of 750 for a Mathews bare bow.

Thanks.  I was looking at the Tech hunter and shot it as well. I thought it was vary forgiving. I kinda shyed away from it becuase I couldn't find any reports on it. So I didn't really know the quality, besides it was made by Diamond. I might have to go back and due another comparision.

I changed over to a Whisperflite dropaway 3 years ago and love it. Accuracy improved dramatically. I also changed my fletching angle after I changed the rest, didn't have to worry about deflection anymore.  Definately helped on the longer ranged shots

Duck,
I think you have to look at the reviews on the BowTech Legacy to find what you need. I believe that is what the Tech Hunter is patterned after.  I have had mine for 3 yrs now and have had no problems with it at all. It has been from here in Tx to Canada,Pa. and Wi. so it has seen all diff kinds of weather and no problems. Smooth shooting, quiet and as fast as needed to harvest several nice deer, hogs and elk. My pers opinion, good bow for the money. Diamond,BowTech and the Gander version are all made by the same co. so I trust the brand.

I use a Trophy Taker fall away.  LOVE IT!!!!  Have had no issues with noise or even issues with ice and snow gunking up the works.
Love playing that string music and sending a Muzzy flying!

I hunted for the first time with mine 2 years ago in Quebec on a caribou hunt.  We experienced everything from mid 60's to snow and sleet in the week we were there.  Never had an issue with my Trophy Taker.  I don't worry about snow in bow season in NC typically, but it is nice to know I do not have to!!!

Don't ya just love it when you're hunting in the snow or rain, you find your quarry, go to pull your bow back and...ditditditditditdit.....cable slide chatters, now the animal is on full alert. Had a Golden eagle forever, that moment was it's last. Got a whole new setup the next summer (with teflon cable slide).

I switched to a drop away a couple of years ago - after decades of using a springy or flipper/plunger combo on a fingers bow.
I got the Trophy Ridge DropZone, and never toyed with any of the others.
I'm happy with my DZ, and probably will never need a different rest.
It's easy to tune, and no problems so far!

I have been using a drop away rest for five years now and I love they way they work.  I have had a Schaefer, Trophy Taker(on two separate bows) and now I shoot the QAD ultra rest.  A very good system and I have shot better becuase of it.  Very little paper tuning after initial setup at the shop.

I know that whisker biscuits are very popular and a lot of people shoot them but they are not for me.  I guess to get back on the topic I shot the trophy taker very well, I don't have experince with the G5 but I have heard they work well.  I chose the QAD because it holds the arrow on the rest and I didn't have to add anything to my bow to keep my arrow sitting there.  I went elk hunting in '07 and at the end of the trip I was looking for something to hold my arrow on the bow without me holding the arrow itself.

Most of the prongs out there are either plastic or metal. The metal is usually coated with a shrink tubing that will wear out quicker than you think. I prefer to use a felt pad on my rest. Haven't had an issue with them in years. Not sure if there are any other materials on the market. Haven't heard about them anyways.
