Who has been in the woods and heard them "tree roostin banes of our existence" sounding off? They are gobbling good here in NC!
Love playing that string music and sending a Muzzy flying!

I need to get out to do some scouting to see what's happening around here. It was 68 on Wednesday and 71 yesterday, so I would imagine the longbeards are ready to do some breeding!!!

Been hearing a few around her in central Missouri, usually as i'm leaving for work in the morning. They have been sounding off enough to get me fired up. I'm usually not ready until a bit later, but this year I've been ready since deer seasons closed. Should be a good year. Steve Albers

The birds are pounding away here. Just watched a group of nine Jakes and one longbeard doing a full strut around a single Hen. The longbeard won the honors and mated with the Hen. We're insured of another crop of poults for this Spring.
The freshest tracks still have feet in them.

I wouldn't think they would actually be breeding up north here for several weeks yet. They normally figure the first or second week of April here and that's why they don't open our season until the third Monday of April every year.

The warm weather is getting them fired up here. They moved our opener to April 27. Will be fun to finally get to go hunting again.

I would have thought it was too early as well but seeing is believing. They're in love!!!

I am heading to TN this weekend to film some kids for the Kids Hunting for the Cure event. Gonna be a good one. Word coming down is that we got some good birds gobbling over there!
Love playing that string music and sending a Muzzy flying!

I'm seeing fewer and fewer hens the last number of days. All the jakes and longbeaards are still fussing every morning. I'm thinking most of the hens are on their nests.

Hmmmm...What can I say? Rain, Sleet, Snow, Hail, Thunder, Lightning, Cold Temps and very few birds seen. The cool thin was that out of 110 kids....20 were able to drop a gobbler! Not the weather or numbers we wanted...but everyone had a great time. I mean...we were HUNTING after all! My kid, Dalton Dyer, did not get a shot but he is a great guy and would share a blind with him anytime!

A great horned owl moved into the neighborhood and the turkey have decided to move off some. I could still hear them gobbling in the distance this morning. I was out just before dawn and heard one heck of a commotion and some animal screaming. I'm guessing old hoottie was having breakfast.

Just took this a few minutes ago. One hen, one long beard and the rest of the entourage.
