Paul,

A positive outlook goes a long way to making a successful hunt, hell you might even bag one at 7:13 am. Let us know how it works out for you.

Martin

you just get after them. Good luck! Show the pix!

Good luck to all you folks up north!  The south has been pretty productive this year.  My father said that the local checking station in TN has been hopping with birds being brought in.  Have some friends here in NC that have tagged out already.  A couple in the first few days.  Hope the winter weather was not too rough on your populations and the spring is kind to your poults!
Love playing that string music and sending a Muzzy flying!

Score 0 for 2

Been out two times with no luck but, I have to leave the woods by 8:00. I've got a big tom that is on the farm next to where I'm hunting. Have to call him away from his hens to my place by 8:00. Looks like Sat will be better, I can hunt until 12:00.

car---If you can't get between a Tom and the hens when they come off the roost, it is really tough.  I have had much better success in the middle of the day to late afternoon after the hens take off and old mr. longbeard is out searching for some more lovin!!!  In fact, I don't even get a tag for the first two week season here in Michigan, but just help others.  Then I'm rarin to go with my tag that is good for almost the entire month of May.  The last three years I have killed my best birds and none was before 11AM.  One was almost quiting time at sundown and I had to keep watching the time to make sure I was legal before I was finally able to whack him!!!

Topgun,
Good strategy! I love getting out on opening day here but most of the time it is just a day in the woods with no encounters. I went to Philip to set up Marcy's blind today. It was 86...hot. I saw some of the biggest gobblers I ever, ever, ever saw. Jurassic Turkeys! I had to gently push them out from where I needed to set up. They stay in this creek bottom canyon 1mile long and 1/4mile wide. The canoyn is surrounded by flat wheat fields and grass land for 50+ miles. The hunt is for Sat.

Well, 0 for 3.

I hadn't heard a thing and I was picking up my decoys and heard that old bird gobble. Leaving by 8:00 sure sucks. Wait until Sat.

WTG, pad' !!!

I "discovered" a new (to me) area for turkeys this a.m. ... doesn't mean I'll even get to huntin' it, or that I'll see any, so I'm not makin' any predictions ... but ... it's less than a half-mile from the house, and there's supposed to be turkeys there "all the time" ...
