That is for sure there are lots of great stories out there, so welcome and lets hear some bear hunting stories. Never had the chance to chase a bear.

Howdy brandie! Welcome to the site, and thanks for your post! I have had some exciting experiences hunting black bear. I've hunted bears in Saskatchewan, Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba. I'm going back to Manitoba this spring (and next spring) and heading back up to Ontario this fall. I have many stories on the subject of hunting blackies. Alberta has some of the most aggressive bears I've ever seen. I watched a big black boar chase my outfitter one afternoon. Talk about INTENSE!! My outfitter, Harvey and I stalked our way into an active bait site one afternoon and noticed that the bait barrel had been knocked over -- a sure sign that a bear was hitting the bait. Harvey set his gun down -- big mistake -- to go re-bait the barrel and he told me to go climb into my stand. I was climbing up to the platform when I heard the bear growl. I looked up just in time to see Harvey running for his life. To make matters worse, my bow was lying on the ground 15 feet below me. The only thing I could think of was to yell, "Hey". I yelled "Hey" again, and then screamed it at the top of my lungs the third time, which turned the bear in the opposite direction saving Harvey from one heck of a beating, and quite possibly a death sentence. I shutter to think what would have happened if that bear would have killed him. There I would have been, stuck up in a tree with no weapon, a rogue, man-eating bear and a dead outfitter! That bear was lying in the weeds the whole time we were there. As soon as Harvey made a move toward the barrel, the bear charged. It was something to see! Once the bear turned and ran off into the woods, Harvey came over to the base of my tree with his eyes the size of dinner plates. He then handed up my bow to me and said, "You're on your own!" Later that night, back at camp, we joked about the experience, but at the time it was NOT funny. However, I remember watching Harvey run away from the bear in a zigzaging pattern and thought to myself that he looked exactly like that gopher from Caddy Shack! Harvey is fairly short in stature and wears a brown coat so watching him run in quick, zigzags reminded me of that gopher! We laughed until we cried! I have many more stories to share about bear hunting, and I'll share them all at some point. You'll have to remind me to tell you about the time my buddy and I got stranded on a huge waterway in Ontario at night by our "outfitter". We almost didn't make it out of that one alive either! Anyway, thanks again, brandie. And, be sure to contribute at least 10 posts to qualify for the Free Bear Hunt, and maybe you'll have your own story to share! Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve

If you listen closely, you can still hear the theme from Caddy Shack... "I'm all right, nobody worry about me... Why you got to give me a fight... Why can't ya just let me be... I'm ALL RIGHT!" hehehe! Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve
