They're on the move

I let the dogs out early this morning after their breakfast. It was still pretty dark but the neighbors yard had three big doe tip toeing toward the woods with a big buck (couldn't see how many points, too dark) right behind them. It's time. The only thing that kills deer in my town are cars and old age. No hunting allowed.

They are on the move here also. The bucks are hitting the scrapes pretty hard but the does aren't cooperating just yet. I figger the 11th as ussual. Maybe today. We just had a cold front move in with mixed rain snow. While elk hunting with my bud from Wis. I took him in beyond the ridge where I shot my buck last week. We went into the next valley and up the mountain onto the forest service land. I've known about this place for about 4 yrs. but never had the ambition to go way back in there. We seen some elk sign on the mountain but the real interesting spot was in the valley. It is so hard to get to that it is vertually untouched. Whitetails everywhere and totally ignored us when we walked up to them. Bryan went back Sunday and caught 2 bucks making scrapes. One was the same size as mine and the other was a little bigger. He's looking for a muley though so he passed on them. That ridge drops about 1'000' in about 400 yrds I'm guessing. Very steep. I don't know if Montana grows a whitetail big enough to shoot back there. But if he is anywhere, I believe he is there.

Sounds like a place to get into a bit more often then. The best animals live way back in and never see any humans. Good luck with all of that rik.

txbhunter1@sbcglobal No way to urban bow hunt them? Only if I want one to drop in a neighbors driveway. I'm in a suburb of NYC. It's countryfied here, plenty of game, but it's New York none the less. I'm surrounded by Liberals and Bunny Huggers. We have be the only conservatives in the Village.
