There are hogs and then there are..... - Wednesday, April 08, 2009 6:12 PM ( #1 )
There are hogs and then there are MONSTER HOGS!!!!

This is a story from July of last year but I thought you guy's might find it interesting, particularly the death threats by anti-hunting enviro nut jobs that simply do not have a clue. At any rate, enjoy:

Alabama boy gets death threats for hunting 1000 pound monster hog.

When a 1,000-pound wild hog was shot last year in Alabama, 11-year-old hunter Jamison Stone couldn’t have been happier. But his prize photos of the 9-foot-long boar have continued to cause a stink, one the Stone family can’t seem to shake.

The backlash has only grown worse, with one group calling for the hunters' prosecution.
"It is unbelievable what my family has been through over the past year," Mike Stone, Jamison’s father, told the Birmingham News. "It has taken 10 years off my life."

An online petition has garnered more than 800 signatures from around the world demanding prosecution for what activists are calling animal cruelty, according to the newspaper.

Rhonda Roland Shearer, a New York City organizer who investigated the incident, said the pig suffered a "cruel and painful death," the result of 16 shots from a low-velocity weapon, nine of which hit the hog.

Shearer said that no charges are being pressed against the hunters, as the Alabama statute of limitations on animal cruelty has already elapsed.

Yet the Stone family is feeling the wrath of some critics.

"You should see some of the emails and hear some of the calls we have received," Jamison’s father said. "They are explicit. They tell how they are going to kill my son, like cutting his head off.

"It has had us scared to death ... All I did was to take my son on a legal hunting trip."

The prize pig, shot by Jamison Stone on an Alabama hunting preserve in May 2007, reportedly weighed 1,051 pounds and measured 9 feet, 4 inches from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail.

If the claims are accurate, Jamison's trophy boar would be bigger than the original “Hogzilla,” the legendary 800-pound, 8-foot-long wild hog killed in south Georgia in 2004.

I find this hard to believe. If that is the case of Death Threats, why have none of the guys that hunt trophy deer been acausted for shooting monster whitetails or elk or bear?

I don't know about other places but here hunters can't be charged with animal cruelty. Seems kind of silly to try to attempt to charge a hunter with cruelty.

This is an old story, but from what I read about it, the story is true.

The kid did get death threats and a bunch of hate E mail after killing that big hog.  I can't remember where on the Net I found the story, but I actually read some of the hate E mail and the people were downright nasty to the kid.  The family of the kid had a web site dedicated to the hog and you could read the E mails that he got at the site.  On the flip side, he did receive quite a few congratulatory E mails as well.

If I can remember correctly the kid had to shoot the hog a bunch of times -- not sure of the exact number, but it was significant -- and that is what sparked all of the controversy and hate E mail.

OK... I should have read more from above...

"This is a story from July of last year".

"16 shots from a low-velocity weapon, nine of which hit the hog".

Too bad that the kid had to experience all of the negativity surrounding the manner in which it was killed.  Nevertheless, that hog is a giant!

Take care and Good Hunting!

Steve,
He shot it with a S&W 500. His dad's handgun. If you remember where you found the site for what you read, please send it to me. I have posted this on my hog website asking if anyone knew of it also.  Unfortunately, he had to endure all the harsh emails and all associated with the hunt, but maybe with dad's backing, he will see that it is all just in trying to degrade our given right to hunt and fish by the anti's. Hopefully he is strong enough to not let this disscourage him from our wonderful sport or the outdoors.  Thanks,

I did some research and found some information.

Here's a quote from a reliable source -- The Anniston Star, Anniston, Alabama:

"After using the stalk-hunting method, the weapon of choice was a modified .50-caliber pistol that had been modified with a holographic scope and a ported barrel to cut down on some its recoil. It was also packing a 350-grain Horaday bullet.

They ventured out and found the hog, and that's when the ordeal started.
To kill the massive beast, 16 shots were fired — all by Jamison. Approximately nine landed. They tracked — and sometimes were forced to avoid — the hog for more than three hours."

I found their web site as well, but the E mails are no longer posted or available.

PM sent to you, tx.

Take care and Good Hunting!

I feel bad for the family. There is more attention about him supposedly being cruel to the hog than there is about the death threats they've been receiving. Just ridiculous.

it's amazing to me how those who oppose killing an animal will threaten to kill a human being over it!

thanks for sharing the video

That shows exactly how their kind of thinking is so wacky when a lot of them put an animal on the same or higher level than a human being!!!
