The Can Call and does??? - Sunday, November 08, 2009 8:03 PM ( #1 )
Hi guys,  This past weekend while bowhunting in southern West Virginia, I had does respond to "The Can" bleat call like they were on a string. Myself and my hunting partner both took does this weekend and he says that he has used
this call on numerous occasions to bring does within bow range. Has anyone else experienced this, or are we just hunting a deer herd where they all think that they are bucks?????  Just wondering.....   Thanks!!

Tim,

I have played with "The Can" several times at Bass Pro and noticed that some of them sound stangely like a fawn bleat. The fawn bleat would account for your does coming in on a string. I have never personally had success with the fawn bleat on our family farm but have heard many stories and sen some TV shows where it worked.

If you need good eats for the freezer...keep it up!!

Love playing that string music and sending a Muzzy flying!

From my experience the can will work on does nearly every single time.  The real excitement begins when you have a hot doe in the area or a hot doe that is being chased by a buck.

Mix-up the can call with a couple of grunts and you should be able to get that doe to come right past your stand, and guess where the buck will go?  That's right; he'll follow her step-for-step right past you.

Take care and Good Hunting!

Best Afield,

I also have had great success with the can on everything from does to bucks. I use the big can for more length in the call and the louder sound. Like Steve said, follow it up with a grunt or 2 and they will come running. But all of you have to realize that it takes the right deer to respond to calls. Not every one will come to them.  They work great.......in my opinion.
