The Stand Guardian™ Tree Stand Cable Lock is a complete cable security system. At one inch in diameter it’s enormous, especially compared to existing security cables in the hunting industry. And because you won’t need to purchase a padlock -- it comes with an internal ballistic-grade lock -- it’s a bargain. One more thing: it comes with 3, not 2, keys because you’ll probably lose one in the woods.
SPIRALTWIST™ CABLING
The cable is junkyard tough. Thanks to SpiralTwist™ technology, the heat-treated core is practically indestructible. Woven galvanized steel has some interesting characteristics: the more you twist it, the stronger it gets (just like heating it). However, as with many physical processes, there is a threshold of diminishing returns. So, we reach that threshold without exceeding it by braiding the strands and then twisting them. That’s why there are 9 braids consisting of 128 strands.
ELEMENTGUARD™ PROTECTION
Finally, we decided to protect the cable with a coating. If you haven’t heard about ElementGuard™, it’s probably because you’re outside of the military. It’s a pliable yet durable polymer substance that accepts coloring. We chose smoke, because it matches the bark of most trees. So by coating the cable, we disguise it while it protects the surfaces of your treestand -- or ATV or generator or motorcycle or whatever.
TWO-STAGE, BALLISTIC LOCK
Our integrated lock is considered "ballistic grade," because it's a heavy-duty connection designed specifically to resist severe blows from tools such as hammers and crow bars. Ours is also a two-stage design that does a good job of avoiding "false lockups."
TWO LENGTHS (ARE BETTER THAN ONE) The Stand Guardian™ comes in 5- and 7-foot lengths. The 5-footer should be sufficient for most trees up to about 3 feet in diameter. For larger trees, and for safeguarding climbing and ladder stands, choose the 7-footer.
