So many bucks

Boy were the bucks out this morn. On the way home from work I must seen atleast 20 bucks. Some really nice ones too. All in their bachelor groups. If you seen one there were 5. We seen one group of 3 that were all very nice. One of them was a 7x7. It had 3 forks and brow tines. Didn't see any whitetails. Havn't seen hardly any bucks in the last few weeks and all of a sudden BAM they are in every field. And nice ones too.

Well I normally don't take the camera to work with me.{ to many things that can smash it there } Unless I see something hanging around and then I take it. These guys all came out of nowhere and caught me off gaurd. Maybe I'll catch em next week.

Deadeyerik, There sure is a lot of truth to your statement "good rain, good racks"....Our bucks in northern WI and MN always grow the best antlers on years with early, warm wet springs.....Antler development begins within weeks of shedding the old ones....The sooner the deer get fresh "green" nutrients from new grown plant life, the faster and larger the racks will grow....late snows, cold dry springs and dry early summer retard antler growth.....The "growing season" of antlers will correlate directly with that of "first crop hay"....At least up north anyway..... Hope you get a chance to hunt at least some of them......Time to start knocking on doors..... Randy

Too be honest weren't any of them big enough. Well maybe a couple of them. Towards the end of the season. I don't really even hunt that area too much except for does. My main hunting area for deer is eastern Montana. Around Ashland, in the Custer forest. BIG bucks!!!! I start looking for something over 25" and usually end up taking any 4x4. I havn't gotten a BIG one yet but I have seen some dandys that I couldn't shoot for one reason or another. The biggest being a monster that my partner emptied his rifle on and then I handed him mine and he emptied that. Not a scratch and it walked away like we weren't even there. It was about 200 yds. away when he started shooting at it. Just walking back and forth following a hot doe. Eventually they just walked over the ridge into the sunset. I shot my buck the day before so all I could do is watch and pull my hair out.

Emptied two guns on one a 200 yards huh? I'll bet instead of taking a decent rest for one good shot that he just wailed away offhand!!! Am I right?

Sitting on the ground, one elbow on his knee, using the front bumper as a rest. The closest he got as far as I could see was when he hit the dirt at the deers feet and kicked dirt up into his face. The buck was shaking his head cuz the dirt got in his face. Didn't phase him a bit. Kept following the doe back and forth like a duck shoot. 2 days later he dropped a smaller 4x4 with one shot to the neck at 100 yds. I thought that was a bit strange so I asked him where he was aiming and he said " At the deer."

So ... 'rik is kinda like Ralphie, in A CHRISTMAS STORY ... ? Except it really happened ... Sorry 'bout that, 'rik ... As far as "eye" problems go, My Bride has a developing cataract ... the optical guy is waiting for it to get werse before he skeds corrective surgery ... The first thing she mentioned, when she told me about it, wuz: " ... but it's not my shooting eye!" ...

Do you know how many times I've heard " You'll shoot your eye out kid. "? I wish I had a nickle. It's all cool though. We are allways joking about it. Happened when I was 2 so I don't even remember having 2 good eyes. I can still see with one eye better than most with 2. Always ticks my dad and wife off when we are out hunting. Theres a deer. Where? It's a buck. Where? Looks like a 8 point. WHere??????? On that hill bout 1/2 mile away. What hill?
