Shot 3 Kangaroos in Australia

In June of this year I went to Australia for a couple of weeks. While there I had the opportunity to go hunting with some friends. I used one of their rifles, a Browning A-Bolt in .223 WSS. Saw five Kangaroos and shot three of them. The three Kangaroos I shot were all bucks, so I didn't have to deal with the little Joey that the females usually have in their pouches. We ate the backstrap of the smallest of the three, and it tasted to me like elk.

I'd say that definitely qualifies as "exotic" - at least to me!

The people I was with were immigrants from the former Soviet Union, and they said that Kangaroo meat is sold in the stores. It is supposed to me more nutritious than beef. Our friends had never eaten it. They use it as dog feed. When my wife fried up that backstrap, some of them tried it and liked it. Kangaroos are browsers, eating mostly grass. There was little fat, making it a lean meat that I thought tasted like elk.
