Scorpion Venom - Wednesday, April 16, 2008 12:01 PM ( #1 )
How many of you still use the old wax stick to wax your strings?  Do you realize how much damage to the string and cables you are doing?

Here is a product you should switch to.  Its called Scorpion Venom and is the best product on the market to lubricate your strings and cables with.

With traditional waxes you have to introduce friction into the picture to get the wax to penetrate the strings, this friction causes stress to the fibers of the string which reduces the life of the string and cable assembly. To apply the scorpion venom all you do is run the soft self contained applicator on the string and then rub lightly with your fingers, no friction necessary for penetration(get your heads out of the gutter).

During cold weather the traditional wax tends to freeze and gum up, which again causes wear on the string and serving where it contacts the cams and cable slide.  Scorpion venom, since it is a polymetric fluid, will not freeze and will continue to protect your string through out its use in the cold weather.  Wax also does poorly at stopping water from getting into the strings and soaking in, which causes the string to begin to break down(or break all together if it freezes), again scorpion venom will not allow the water to penetrate the string thus continuing to protect the string.  With traditional waxing you can't easily lubricate around the cams without disassembling your bow, scorpion venom allows easy lubrication of the cam and the string that goes around the cam without taking the bow apart.

I currently use the String Lubricant, Cam and Serving Lubricant and the cleaner.  You will be shocked at how dirty a bowstring gets when you use the cleaner.   For my tournament shooting needs I use the Target arrow lubricant on my arrows and don't have to worry about my arrows sticking in the targets.

To get your own scorpion venom products go to www.scorpionvenomarchery.com and take a look at what they have to offer.

Thanks for the advice.  I checked it out, and I am going to order some.
I shoot a Mathews Coquest 2, and shoot with my fingers.  I just put a new Winners Choice string on last fall.  I will be putting the Venom on now.

Which is easier to work with the spray or solid.

Thanks Tom
Good luck and be safe.

Tom Turkey - the scorpion venom does not come in a spray.  The string lubricant is applied with a soft tipped applicator bottle, then you use your fingers to even it out along the string.  The Cam and serving lube is applied by placing 3 to 6 drops around where the serving contacts the cams and then draw your bow a couple times to get it worked in.  I myself over do this part by running a whole bead around the cam, my local pro hates this because everytime he works on my bow he gets showered from the lube

For you traditionalists out there, they do offer a version of the traditional wax, but I don't recommend it because of the friction needed to apply it.

good luck

They are odor-free.  I should know as I tend to over use the product and have never noticed any odor from them.

I have even had deer come up to my tree-stand when I have lowered my bow and sniff my bow and not spook from it

Scorpion Venom is a great product and I stand behind it 100%

good luck

It does seem like something worth trying.

whitetail,
I am assuming that you are using the fluid then and not the wax. Wonder what the diff. is between the two? Definately something to look into. I use the graphite stuff my self, but am willing to get more from my string as mine get changed every 2 yrs, worn or not. I also use the Winners Choice strings.

tx - the wax is not really a wax, but a more solid form of the fluid.  They offer this product for those who want the feel of waxing their bow as opposed to applying the fuid.

To apply the "wax" you just gently rub into the string the same way(allthough with much less friction) as you did the traditional waxes.  However just like with traditional waxing you will have to remove the string to apply on the cam area with the polymer "wax"

whitetail,
Then the fluid would be better than the wax if not wanting to take the string off correct? If this is the case, I'm getting some. It seems as though it would be alot better for the string and serving also if the liquid were used and less chances of something happening when the string and bow are relaxed..

Whitetail,
I was told that before I use the liquid, I need to do the cleaner first. Problem is, they don't show the cleaner online. Any idea on where to get it?

Gary,

I thot that too, after readin' your post ... BUT ... then I saw it on the list (I used the link from above to find the site) ... ALSO their "Three-Star Kit" includes all the good stuff ... cleaner, lube and the cam/server lube, and the combo saves a couple of dollars from the price if ordered separately ...

If Son #1 doesn't have that stuff in the store, I'm placing an order from Scorpion Venom quite soon ... (gotta practice with the bow for the deer and Pronghorn seasons ... and ... um ... seems as if I'm fergittin' sumthin' ... um ... oh, YEAH! THE MOOSE SEASON!!!)

O,
Does your son have an archery shop? If so, what does he charge for the kit? I would rather deal with you guys then strangers.  LOL

No, Gary ... he werks @ Scheels in Fargo ... he wuz one of the main archery guys back when he wuz still sellin' on the floor, but now he's a white-shirt (Asst. Mgr.) and he's off the commission basis (tho there are some formulae they use for bonus calculation for the various department supervisors, but archery is not one of his departments ... )

So ... tnx for the thot, but y'all can feel free to deal with whomever y'all like ... altho, they might have it in the online store ... (gotta go check now, and also a few of other places like Cabela's and Gander and Warehouse ... I like to compare prices with the "factory direct" costs ... )

If I find any "bargain" prices compared to direct, I'll let y'all know ... I've gotta try it myself, so I'll be findin' the best deal I can ...

Nope ... checked the five or six most likely outlets ... nobuddy has it in their inventory, that I can find ... so ... it would seem that direct order is the best way to go ...

I got a guy on my hog forum that has an archery shop in OK. If I can get a good price vs online, I'll pass it on to y'all.

Sounds good ... tnx ... if I locate one, I'll do the same ...

HOWever, I'm a bit doubtful ... their website strikes me as the extent of their marketing strategy ... tho that's merely a guess ...

(I found a similarly marketed item @ the Sports Show in Pomona a few years ago ... got one there for the "show" price, and I've looked since on their web page, but never saw it in any stores or online catalogs from the fishing suppliers ... it's a GREAT item, but apparently they only sell online & @ shows ... mebbe I should check again ... I should look, and link it for the anglers in this crowd ... )
