Pro Shop Found! - Friday, August 07, 2009 1:32 AM ( #1 )
Last Monday, I went to get my truck's oil changed near Branson, Missouri, which is about 39 miles from my front door.  You're all probably wondering why I drive that far to get my oil changed, but it's a long, long story regarding frustrating business experiences with not-so-friendly Chevy dealerships here in the city of Springfield, but I won't bore you with all of those details.

Anywho, I needed a new string loop on my bow and since the only place in town that I trusted to work on it recently went out of business I was in dire need of finding another reputable pro shop in the area.

Long story, longer; I found one.  Hallelujah and thank the Good Lord, I found one!

The shop doesn't carry Hoyt bows, but I guess I'll let that one slide.  The owners have 30 years experience in the trade and are just as friendly as could be.  The shop also has a fairly decent indoor archery range with a wide variety of 3D targets to drill your arrows into.

If you are ever in Branson, Missouri on vacation or just passing through look up:

Take care and Good Hunting!

It's great that you found a shop that you feel comfortable in. God only knows many have folks behind the counter that just don't really care. I was very lucky today myself as I searched for my new bow. I have visited a number of places getting a feel for the right bow for me. Some places were just not my cup of tea. A lot of counter people are just damn rude.

Anyway, today I visted an archery pro shop that I haven't been to in years. They used to have a bad reputation as far as customer service was concerned. They have been in business for many years.

The problem apparently was the last generation of the family because the Gentelmen I met today were superb. They were incredibly knowledgeble of every product in the store. They were honest in their comparisons of each bow and accessory. They were down to earth and had a great sense of humor. It was a slow Friday early afternoon and we had some fun. I looked at and compared a lot of different bows. I shot one after another and finally after four hours decided on the first bow I had been leaning toward. The Mathews Reezeen 7.0. Man, it sure shoots sweet. My groups are incredibly tight. I loaded her up with lots of goodies that the boys set up for me right there in the store. If I ever have a problem I just bring it back for free servicing. I have that in writing. I also get a free hour on their range plus a lifetime card at a 30% discount on other range fees. Of course I can shoot right in my back yard but I'll be going back to visit those folks in order to have some more laughs. It's been a great day.
The freshest tracks still have feet in them.

snytrophyhunter:

Congrats!  That is awesome!  I'm very glad you enjoyed your bow-buying experience, and I wish you a lot of luck with your new purchase!  You did it the right way also.  You went out and did the research and leg and arm work yourself.

There are a lot of high quality bows on the market these days.  No matter what someone tells you about a certain brand of bow being the "best;" the most important aspect about purchasing one is if YOU are comfortable and accurate when shooting IT.  That is the bottom line.

And, you are right; there are some people who work behind the counter in pro shops -- and other places as well -- that are nothing but rude and crotchety.  It's a wonder to me how they think a guy or gal will purchase anything from them when they act that way.  Finding a good pro shop with knowledgeable and friendly personnel makes all the difference in the world if you ask me.

Take care and Good Hunting!

Steve

Guess I've been lucky with my shops.  I was using one outside Oneonta, NY, as I was heading upstate on my days off.
That stopped, so I checked out Northern Dutchess Archery in Redhook, NY, and haven't gone wrong since.  Joe takes care of you!  "Good" pro shops are like car mechanics....hard to find a good one ....
