I've been checking out some outfitters for unguided mule deer hunts and I came upon Powder River Bowhunts. Has anyone had any experience with this group? dodgeman_29

I don't know them, but what are you looking for. If it's a diy hunt, I can help you out.

That's what I'm looking for. My Dad, brothers and I would love to get a mule deer hunt in together before it's too late but don't know where to go to find decent bucks. Any help I can get with that would be great. dodgeman_29

I know some good areas for mulies, but it's kinda hard to draw a tag unless you go deer elk combo. Then your odds go from 25%-65%.

I don't know a lot about hunting Montana- areas, draws or anything. The way the hunting is getting here in WI I'm going to have to get real familiar with other states if I want to enjoy my hunting. How does the draw system work there? Do you build preference points? I'm pretty green when it comes to that. When I hunted Idaho, we went what was considered "semi" guided so we had guaranteed tags and an area to hunt that wasn't overrun with guys. There wasn't any guided to it, just like we wanted it to be. Put us where there are animals and let us do what we know how to do. Hunting is hunting when you get down to it, either you understand it or you don't.

You draw for general deer and elk tags. Yes they use PPs. After you get a general tag you can apply for special permit areas if you want. Special permit areas are similar to the hunting units in Wis. Different rules. Kind of overwhelming at first but actually pretty easy when you look at it for awhile. Can't remember when the deadlines are off hand but you have plenty of time. I'll check them out for you.

Thank you very much. I appreciate the help. I suppose you're right, once I get going on this stuff it'll be pretty easy. I just don't know how or where to get started. dodgeman_29
