Poison Suspected In Mysterious Deer Death

4/17/2009

Investigation continues into a possible case of wildlife poisoning, after a Michigan deer carcass was found recently laced with a blue crystal-like substance officials suspect is a type of pesticide, according to a report from Outdoor News Daily.

A Keweenaw Bay Indian Community conservation officer recently found the deer carcass, and a dead bald eagle, not far from each other in Baraga County, Michigan, and immediately contacted the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Results of the eagle’s necrology are still pending.

“At this time, this case remains under investigation,” Lt. Tim Robson, DNR Law Enforcement supervisor at the Marquette Operations Service Center, said. “We are coordinating our efforts with other state and federal agencies.”

Individuals found harassing or killing a bald eagle can carry serious federal charges because of its emblematic significance to the nation.

Geez Louise!!

I hate to be pessimistic, but there are so many idiots running around these days that I think the crazy people actually outnumber the sane people!

Truly sad.

Take care and Good Hunting!

If they do catch the culprits, they're gonna pay out the nose for this one. Federal charges are rarely very cheap.

If memory serves (and in this case, I doubt that it will), last time I heard about an eagle killin' the fine mentioned wuz in excess of $50K ... could it have been as high as $250K?

Why, in ones mind, would you want to kill a bald eagle?
Hope they are caught and prosacuted to the fullest extent of the law!

So do they know if this was intentional or accidental?

If my memory serves me right...Quite a few years ago in WI there was a big investigation concerning several poisoned bald eagles......Turns out the DNR themselves poisoned a lake to kill all the fish for one of their pork barrel experiments....The eagles died at the hands of the Wisconsin DNR....after they were blaming someone other at the beginning of the investigation.....I would guess that this most likely is accidental too..And maybe at the hands of authorities also......
