I did a pheasant hunt in SD last fall at Dakot hotspots. My oldest son paid for the hunt, it was great, good chow, nice lodge, plenty of birds, have not seen so many sense hunting in Germany in the early 80's.
I want to do that again if I can this year.

It was a great time, I just lost my grandfather a week ago and all I have been thinking about is hunting with him.

Well almost a year has gone by and we are making plans for a new pheasant hunt in SD at Dakota hot spots lodge. With my oldest son again. Looking forward to it, except the walking part, plays hell with me.

Your pictures got me dreaming. I'm hoping to get away for my first pheasant hunt in Dec. Up here It's just to harsh of a winter for pheasants. We got sharp tails & ruffled grouse & some Hungarian partridge but gotta head south for the ringnecks

Looks like a nice opener for y'all ... where did the hunt take place? We had our best opener ever last fall ... my son brings several HS buddies out every year, and we did quite well ... then, most of 'em returned for the last weekend of the season ... January in Nodak was NOT NICE to us, but we still bagged a dozen birds despite the near-blizzard conditions, and we didn't freeze off any toes, either ... (the dogs didn't have much fun, tho ... so we left 'em in the pickups)

Fessunt season opens here on Saturday ... the usual gang is either werkin' or doin' some other commitments ... so ... I'll be alone ... except for Desi, who is always ready to go sniffin' for the red bodes ... I took both of 'em out for a brief run and "hunt" last weekend after the moose hunt wuz over ... put the collar on Desi (but kept the short-legged rascal tied to my belt with a long leash) ... she din't respond to the collar AT ALL ... So ... Son #1 checked it out, and ... Duh! ... the battery wuz dead ... came home, and eventually looked for the charger ... nope ... told My Bride that if the collar wuzn't werkin' I wuzn't takin' the dog (she tends to get too far out, but a beep or two brings her back in ... VERY seldom do I actually need to hit the shock button) ... and if the dog couldn't go, I wuzn't goin' either ... Looked a bit more, asked My Bride (phone call) to see if she could pick up a new charger @ the store) and we talked a bit and she reminded me that I'd put some of the "important" chargers (GPS, dog collar, and like that sorta stuff) in a special plastic tub ... she reminded me of whut it looked like, and VOILA!!! ... once it got a bit of power, tested it, and it werks ... so ... we're all set for Saturday a.m. ... If y'all infer frum the above narrative that I have not yet had Desi out in the tall grass much, to get her ready ... that's true ... remember, I wuz havin' a difficult time findin' time to get ready for Moose season, let alone werkin' out-of-town with the dog ... she's had plenty of throw-and-fetch in the back yard, and she's had some running time ... so ... with a limited amount of available day for huntin' ... we should be fine ... Takin' the Sweet Sixteen for the main ordnance ... gonna see if I'm as good with it on live targets as on clay birds ... tho I'll have the O/U 12 along for "backup" ... If we find any birds at all, and I don't limit out (due to missed opportunities) on the first walk, I'll switch to the 12 on the next one ... knowin' how it goes when I'm alone, I'll have time for about two or three tries, and then it's back to werk here @ home ... Fotos, if we get lucky ... Y'all could be here with me, y'know ... or later on ... season runs thru first weekend of January ...
