One Less in Tx - Sunday, October 03, 2010 6:33 PM ( #1 )
Well, there'll be one less mulefooted skinhead ruining any more of my hunts here in Tx. This one whistled and snorted for over 30 min's before giving me a 22yd broadside shot. Had 8 does, yearlings and a small spike around me for over an hr. Acorns are dropping and it sounds like popcorn in the woods. They fed til thier bellies were full.

Off tomorrow for my first trip to Wi to try for Whitetails. Be in the stand 3 hrs after I land tomorrow. I will hunt til my reunion on Sat and then back here to Tx for a few days next week and then back up to Wi for 3 weeks of fun in the deer woods. I hope that cool weather hangs around up there for awhile. Time for those boys I have been growing for a few yrs to show up.  LOL!!!!!!!

Re:One Less in Tx - Monday, October 11, 2010 7:33 PM ( #11 )
Well, back in Tx for a few days of the nasty before I head back to Wi. It was a disappointing first hunt up there. Looked forward to nice cool temps and the hot weather must have been packed in my suitcase somewhere. It was 80 deg sat sitting in the stand. Saw one doe that gave me a 40yd shot but decided to pass on it. She was the only deer we saw in the 2.5 days of hunting. I took a drive early sat morning around one of my old haunts and was also very dissappointed. I did not see one deer in any of the picked bean or corn fields. Nighttime driving was about the same. Saw nothing. I do however still have one of the bucks still coming into my place up there. The last pic I have of him was at 8am on the 1st of Oct. It is a massive 10pt. Guess we'll have to see what happens in the next 3 weeks after I get back up there. Found out last night also that my relations had done a deer drive through my property and the papermill 80acres to the east of me after I left on Sat afternoon for the youth season. I had to get up from the table and take a walk to cool down. I was so #@#@#@$#@#@$#@$#@$#@$#@ po'ed. They have no respect for others. This is my sanitary time in the woods and look forward to it every yr and for them to blatantly do this and wait til I leave to do it really erks me. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Headed back up there tomorrow morning early. My dad has had words with my brother already but that won't compare to what he has coming from me. Weather and temps are suppose to cooperate next week, so we'll see how they move. What is there anyways.

Jeff,
Good luck with your season opener tomorrow morning.

Good luck up there Gary, hopefully your bro. got the message from your dad and you don't have to put up with a bunch of that stuff. Hope the weather cools down for you, been waiting for it to cool here in Missouri too. It sucks trying to hunt in 80 degree temps., deer don't hardly move and you gotta rush into the butchering mode to keep em from spoiling on you. Keep us informed Bro.

I got one doe in Wi this yr the first Tue I was there and saw only 2 others while on stand. Wacked another doe from my place here in Tx yesterday morning for ground meat. I have some more to take off soon. The full Wi story in another thread.

I did some more doe thinning this weekend and knocked down 2 more of them "ol mulefooted does less than 30 sec's apart. Whacked one on one end of my plot and saw one standing way at the other end, totally ignored the shot and dropped her too. Never saw the second one til after the 1st shot.  2 more weeks to knock a couple more down and concentrate on bone. Then it will be all bone until the BP season in Jan.
