No draw for deer

Well, looks like I have no deer tags this year. I think this is the first time in 4 years that I haven't drawn a tag. My boys will be disappointed. Might just get them some OTC elk tags. I will have to watch for the leftover list when it comes out. Maybe we can pick up a cow tag or something close by. With one son in football and another that starts soccer, picking seasons isn't easy. Good luck to the rest of you on your draw results. M

Sorry to hear that , I have been trying for the last three years with no success! However, my boy did get one on his first try, so its off to the range we go, have to learn how to shoot a muzzleloader.

Dang, sorry about the dearth of tags in your house, Mike ... Nodak is perty liberal, imho ... kids 12-13-14-15 years old are guaranteed a tag, tho the 12-13-year-old ones will get only a whitetail doe tag, and can only hunt in the Youth Season ... but the older ones "youth" licenses are mostly good for any deer, anywhere in the state (some limits on Muley buck tags in the SW part of Nodak) and the tags are half-price ($10) until they turn 16 ... so I've got three grandkids that are really excited about goin' deer huntin' this fall ... I've never thot of it, but I'm wonderin' if our "youth" tags are "resident only" ... I do know that we've got the policy here that if your state has reciprocity with Nodak, the kids can hunt for resident fees, but I think there's sumthin' about havin' an adult along with a NR license @ the regular price ... now y'all have me curious ... I'll hafta check on this, merely for my own satisfaction and addin' to my vast store of knowledge ... It's past the deadline to apply in the regular draw, but after the second go-round, NRs can get doe tags here for "only" $50 (regular NR price is $215 for the first tag, but I'm sorta thinkin' that y'all NRs don't need to have a "first" tag to get a cheaper one) ... once that happens, we get to the "first-come, first-served" status on leftover licenses ... @ that point in the process, all that's left are doe tags, but there's plenty of opportunity to shoot (at) deer in Nodak, if one merely wants to enjoy the hunting opportunity ... Dunno where y'all are, but y'all would be welcome to try it out here, especially for the youngsters ... Tiny -- no success in three years? Wowser ... that's a tuff draw ... is that MZL only? It's tuff here, too ... usually takes about five years to draw a tag here, demand is so high (I'm on my fourth year now ... but with all our extra doe tags available, we can use the blackpowder rifles during the regular rifle season ... I enjoy the variety & challenge of the smoke-poles, but I don't get enuf time to practice much ... gonna hafta change that if I hope to bag my moose with the .50 caliber ...

I'm in Colorado. Up in the 4 corners region of the state. There is a youth outreach tag that I have put my sons in for, so with any luck they might draw a cow tag through that. Only 6-10 tags are available, but they might get lucky. I can always do an OTC elk tag for them for 2nd season as well, so they will get to hunt something at least. I'm on a guided elk hunt this year with my dad and brother in law, so I can't do an OTC tag with them...but I can take them out and be sherpa/guide/teacher/dad. Wish us luck! M

I agree - I get more excited when my kids and my wife fill their tags than when I do!

Yes, I do look forward to it. Did the same thing last year and just plain forgot to hunt for myself... LOL My youngest got his first doe though, and I think I was more excited than he was...if that is possible. It took me 10 years to get my wife to hunt with me... she got a 5x5 muley her first year out. I was very excited for her as well. We put in for a youth hunt too... so he might get lucky. M

our drawing results became available yesterday I drew a doe/spike tag, and an archery pronghorn tag (rough area to hunt, tho) Didn't get anything else, so it's archery deer and elk for sure!

At least you will get to hunt Ord!!!! I'm on a guided elk hunt this year... so I have that to look forward to. We can always rely on the rabbit season and grouse season too. It's mainly just getting out and spending time together for me and the boys. M
