Nightmare hunt with Strut N Rut outfitters

Went on a bowhunt through Strut N Rut outfitters in Ohio last week. It was a nightmare! 16 hr. drive, these 2 guys took our money and dissapeared. DO NOT fall for the web site. Its slick and pretty, but not true. We got 100 acres with 4 stands for 3 hunters for 3 days, NOT 2000 acres as advertised, NO acorns or food plots, and NO DEER! Not ONE was seen in 3 days of hunting. We did see lots of people though. These guys would not return our calls after I asked for another place to hunt. We are out about 2000. each. Live and learn, so learn from my mistake. AVOID these guys at Strut N Rut outfitters.

I'm very sorry to hear about your bad experience with Strut 'N' Rut. I had a similar experience on my first outfitted hunt. A hunting buddy and I decided to hunt black bear in Ontario back in '95 and we had a disastrous hunt from beginning to end. It would take me several hours to describe the nightmare, including a near-death experience. However, since it is very late, I will refrain from going in to full detail. This is a perfect example of why you have to do your research when choosing an outfitter. In the next few days I will post an article that I wrote for Bass Pro Shops a few years ago that will provide all of you with some good advice on how to go about selecting an outfitter. If you or anyone else needs help choosing an outfitter don't hesitate to contact me. I will be happy to point you in the right direction as I personally know and have hunted with many high quality outfitters and outfitting operations over the years. Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve

Sorry to hear that LOST. From the sounds of things they are more common thieves than outfitters.

Here is a link to the article I wrote a few years ago for Bass Pro Shops about how to go about selecting a hunting outfitter: Selecting a Hunting Outfitter Hopefully this will provide you all with some insight on how to go about searching for and hiring a quality outfitter. Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve
