Just joined today. I'm a sucker for "archery"white tail deer hunts. I live in western South Dakota. I lived in Alaska for 3 yrs, 03- 06. I took alot of black-tails, 1 br. bear, & 1 moose. Here in SD I hunt with my bow most of the time. I have taken deer, antelope, coyotes, turkey, ducks, & pheasants. I put in for the rifle tags too. SD

Thanks for the nice welcome! O-T-U, I live in Rapid City. I hunt west river from Buffalo, SD; Wall- Philip, SD; Redfield, Blackhills, Edgemont, Custer, Deadwood, and eastern WY because you do not need a license to hunt coyotes. Antelope & mulies up north, white tails, turkeys, and coyotes all over. I hunt walk in and nat. forest areas and have very good success. Millions of acres of public land. SD

Ah, Rapid ... got a cousin & spouse livin' there, but they're movin' back to Montana (I'm sorry) ... so I dunno how long they'll be around ... prolly not long enuf for us to get down there to visit 'em ... I sorta know your general stompin' grounds ... from the highway, at least ... got a vague connection with folks in Belle Fourche, and they run a guide-type service around there and Spearfish and in the Hills ... Son #1 and I are agreed that the next time we venture out of state, we'll likely be lookin' at a side trip to that vicinity for some goats or turkeys with our bows ... but that's in the future a year or so ...

ADarcher---I will be dropping a friend at the airport on 10/23 after our bird hunt in ND and picking up another friend at the bus station at supper time that day. We will probably stay in Rapid City that night, so maybe we can get together that evening. I'll also be going through around 9/17 or 9/18 and coming back through a couple weeks later, so we ought to be able to work something out! I love those Black Hills!!!

Topgun, I will make a note of those dates. You must be an "Outfitter" with all those hunting trips...?? Thanks for the welcome from the other guys. I feel lucky, this is a great hunting state, fishing is..so, so.. That just means I have to go to the coast. There are a lot of other family things here like Mt. Rushmore, Devils Tower, + 100 other tourist spots, and don't forget the Sturgis Bike Rally. SD

Gary---Nope, not an outfitter! I'm just a retiree who thankfully stashed enough away over the years to enjoy myself every Fall when hunting seasons roll around. We will have to get together in 2010 for a turkey hunt, as I've missed the last several years hunting those Merriams out around the Park! I got a nice one west of Mt. Coolidge several years ago just outside the Park boundary. I've said more than once that if I wasn't married I would probably be living out in your area or somewhere in the northern part of Wyoming.

First I have a small request: When I read a post, I like to glance over to see where you guys are from. If there is a state or city & state it gives me a better idea about the subject. If a guy says he can't find coyotes for example, I don't know if he is in Tenn. or WY, it makes a difference in the reply. Fill in "From:" on your profile if you want. snytrophyhunter, I will figure it out soon how to post a pic. I have deer, antelope, turkey, moose, bear, trout, halibut, salmon, and rally biker chick pics. Stories w/ every one. SD

We're drier every day but the runoff is filling the Red and Sheyenne rivers. We have a tough couple of days ahead of us with them both going to crest again. Our home is okay but we have lots of friends and neighbors that are crossing their fingers. I shoot a Hoyt Alphamax 32. Just got it and I love it. Very quiet and hopefully when the rivers go down some I will be able to get after some longbeards. Turkey opened today but no hunting for me until the 25th. Combination of work and promising my kids I would take them to MPLS/ST. Paul area next weekend to have some fun at the water park.

Welcome SD, I too love archery hunting, usually pass on rifle season to give my stands a rest for a couple of weeks then back to the bow. I think I've become an addict and my wife is sure of it. Lots of good folks to talk to here and the admins. top notch, they actually participate not just let it do it's own thing. Steve Albers
