New Jersey Bow season opens - Monday, September 12, 2011 7:23 AM ( #1 )
The NJ bow season opened this past Saturday. Both my brother in law, Doc Mills and my buddy Tom hit the woods. Tough hunting in the hot weather, the bugs were trying to eat them both alive. You're required to take a Doe first in NJ and Tom filled his tag on a young Doe. Of course he saw three different bucks before the doe showed up but now he's ready to go after a BIG drop tine buck he's seen on his property over the last few weeks. Doc saw a number of deer as well but all too far for a shot. I'm passing on New Jersey this year. Out of State licences are a little too steep. I'll be heading upstate NY for the Fall Turkey season October 1st. and do a little scouting for the October 15th bow opening day.

Oh by the way, I had a six point and a four standing in my driveway early Saturday morning. My son claims there's a big eight wandering around between the houses as well. Figures, no hunting here. I see a lot of game between the turkey and deer around here. Hope to see as much in the woods where I can hunt.

So my daughter Sharon finally took up hunting now that's she's dating a taxidermist. Took her first deer with a bow late yesterday afternoon. She took her mandatory Doe and can't wait to get back out there after her buck. She had two bucks come in before the Doe showed up. She's offically hooked on bow hunting. Makes a Dad proud.
