Glad to hear the Antis didn't stop it and from what I've heard the state of NJ really needs to thin the bear population. It looks like the first day got a good start on that and a 661 pounder is a biggie!!! I imagine they will be killing a lot of big ones since they have had a lot of years to grow without being shot at.

It's nice to see that some people in the New Jersey Conservation Department have enough brains to realize they needed to initiate a regulated bear hunt in that state! Kudos to them! Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve

An additional 122 bear were taken yesterday for a total of 386 that's about a third of the estimated population of northern New Jersey. DEP was hoping to take between 400 and 700 total for the week. They're keeping an eye on it and will halt the hunt if the numbers become too large.

If their DNR is like a lot of the ones here in the Midwest, they probably have no idea of the total number of deer, bears, or anything else that is around, LOL!!!

Sorry for the previous post guys. The table I was transfering didn't work out. Anyway a lot of bear have been taken. More to follow. The antis are not as crazy as in years before except of course for a few of them. Then again they are the same folk that are on every other protest line about anything and everything. I'm looking for a word to describe them. Oh yeah, NUTS!!!

77 more bear were taken on the final day of the season for a total of 589. The count is still subject to revision as additional bear may have been taken but did not get back to the check station before closing. I believe the take would have been more except for the fact that we had extreme cold conditions monday through friday that kept bear from moving and hunters from entering the woods. Saturdays take was larger than the previous few days as the temperatures climbed to the mid forties, a good 25 degrees warmer than it had been all week. I'm still awaiting weighed information. They should have taken a few monsters.
