New Found Respect for Bear Outfitters - Wednesday, September 16, 2009 2:57 PM ( #1 )
Guys,
I have found some new respect for the outfitters that run services for bear. The long hrs and back breaking work of tending many, many bait sites has given me more than respect for you guys. You get my admiration. The country I saw while running bait sites was breathtaking. The sites that we baited, unless you had a map of them, the common guy would never know they were there. The sites themselves had been found by many, many times of being in the woods and running dogs. You run down a round and then all of a sudden come to a screaching stop, get out, grab a bait bucket and down this unmarked trail and blam!!!!!! Rocks and tree limbs and a somewhat hollowed treebase. How in the heck would you ever find this? You guys do alot to keep the many hunters happy on a daily basis and some you just can not please. My hat is off to you all. I ran the baits for several days last week, including my own everyday and would not want to do it for a living.  LOL  But would if offered a job.  LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work, all of you.

I know what you mean. I run my bait in Maine one year. I sure learned alot. Just like you said it is alot of work but you really get to see alot too. Not just walking in to your bait site and leaving at dark. I baited a little in NH but that was only 2 sites. In Maine a ran 6 baits, wow did that keep me busy.

Bear hunting is tough, even hunting over bait. Just when you think you figured the bears out. Everything will change and I mean not in your favor. This really holds true hunting in the New England area.

But I still go after them and love it.

I ran 35 sites for them and with them during the week. 7am to noon for 3 days and that was only 30% of the sites the outfitter had going. Alot of work man, but fun also. Never knowing if you were going to walk in on a bear at the site or not. Oh yeah, by the way, if y'all remember me mentioning the secret cover scent in some of my other posts. Well it is a combo of aniset oil, spearment oils and some other sweet smelling oils. I smelled like a walking licorice stick by weeks end. A bit un-nerving walking around in the woods after dark smelling like that.  LMAO!!

Yeah that is what I would spray on me also. I mixed up my own spray, it worked pretty good.
