Ohio NWTF Treasurer Sentenced in Theft Case

6/8/2009

An Ohio man was sentenced to 10 months in prison and $5,000 in fines after stealing nearly $73,000 from the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF).

Walter E. Ingram, 48, was the treasurer of the NWTF. He originally plead not guilty to the charges, but later changed his plea to guilty of one count of theft — a fourth-degree felony.

Ingram opened two unauthorized accounts at Merchants National Bank and National City Bank in Washington Court House, Ohio. Ingram deposited checks payable to the NWTF, instead of the authorized bank account at Huntington National Bank.

Ingram had planned to use the funds from the unauthorized accounts to cover gambling debts.

"From Dec. 1, 2004 through May 31, 2008, Mr. Ingram was treasurer with the National Turkey Federation and took advantage of that position," said Judy Wolford, the special prosecutor for the case. "Ultimately, he took approximately $72,951 by opening separate accounts in the name of the Wild Turkey Federation that he had no authority to do."

In a statement, Ingram said he made full restitution to the NWTF, according to a report by the Record Herald.

Full restitution or not I only have three words for stealing from ANY conservation group!  "Get A Rope!"

Non Profits and other charitable organizations fall into the "Get A Rope" category as well!

Yep; in my book thieves, as well as liars, are as low on the totem pole as you can get!!!

I can handle a couple of white lies but when you steal, it really erks me. Nothing worse than a thief in my book.

I do not understand why this guy received only 10 months jail time and a 5 thousenad dollar fine. With the "good behavior" rule, he could be out in 5 months. This guy is guilty of embezzelment and should of had to serve at least 5 years in my opinion. If he did not get caught, he would still be stealing from the NWTF. Also, put his a$$ in a medium to maximum security prison and not a club fed minimum security jail.

(I guess you folks can tell that I have have zero tolerence for criminals. If I was a judge, I'd have the gallo's right outside my chamber....LOL)

Man. it's getting deep in here, LOL!!!  I feel the same way though.  Do the crime and you do the time, not a few months and out for "good behavior".  What a bunch of BS!!!

Sounds like he took a plea bargain to get the shorter sentence.  Too bad...but I'm sure he meet some interesting new "friends" while he's in jail!!!
