NODAK LION - Monday, November 30, 2009 6:42 PM ( #1 )
Well ... they killed a lion on Friday evening ... inside the city limits of Bismarck!

Guy saw it, kept it in the lights, called the G&F and city cops, they came out, got near it ... had to shoot it (BPD with a shotgun) since it wuz within a very short distance (200 yards? I fergit) of residences ... not "downtown" but definitely inside town ... closer to downtown than one of the Waldo stores, and lots of other businesses and homes/apartments nearby ...

If I recall correctly, it wuz a male, about 100# ... speculation wuz that it got kicked out of the family (usual for this time of year) and wuz movin' to find its own territory ... near the Missouri River, which is a natural area for 'em to use/dwell ... Bismarck also has a limited deer season in town for bowhunters, so there'd be enuf food for it ... until it happened upon Fluffy or Bowser or some toddler ...

Best thing about this one is that it's NOT in the "quota" zone, so it doesn't slow up any hunters out there (about 80 miles westward) and it doesn't affect the "open" zone, which season stays open until March ...

Merely FYI ...

Maybe it was the same kitty in WI that the ever knowledgable DNR said came from the NODAK area. Maybe he got homesick and decided to go home for the winter.  LOL

Gary, I gotta say that the WI DNR has a SERIOUS problem, if they've fergot about that intervening space between WI and ND ... it's called MINNESOTA!!!!

That's where our G&F thinks some of our lions have moved into Nodak from, as well as from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Montana and Sodak ... of course they also acknowledge that we DO have a resident, breeding population here ... but they suggest that the "original" ones came from elsewhere ... (I know a LOT of folks who've known about our lions for a long time ... we've had occasional -- but regular -- sightings in various parts of the state for the last 40 years, only in the last 10 has there been "proof" that the critters have been here all along ... sparsely populating the areas where they weren't much noticed, but ... they've been here for years ...

But for Wisconsin to blame us for their "mythological" lions, and totally ignore Minnesnowta's lions ... that's REALLY a problem with facing reality, IMHO ...

Ya think "O"? I could not believe they even had the gall to write such an article. And to say they thought it came from NODAK was just stupid. They must have thought that alot of us have no brains or something. If I can find the article, I'll post it. You can read for yourself just how dumb the DNR in Wi is. It's along trip for you to cheeseland brother..................LOL
