Mt. opener - Saturday, October 23, 2010 9:33 PM ( #1 )
Opening day today. Took a vacation day so I could hunt the opener with my pard from work and his dad and bro. We went to the spot where I shot my elk with the bow. The elk didn't read the script though and were a no show. Somehow some one typed into the script for every tree to  wear orange. Most hunters I have seen in one spot since I've been here. I seen 2 decent mulie bucks at daylight but passed on them. My bud on the other hand missed a really big mulie 5x5.  We did get to see a real nice 6x6 bull elk in the back of someones truck. Stopped and talked to them about it. They said they hit it 6 times before it went down. Not sniper shooting but got the job done. Boy did it stink from the rut. Oh well, back to work tomorrow

Was that a 5x6 elk Dan? I hear ya on the road hunting. I've been real lucky with my elk in that I've been able to drive right up to both of them.

Hey, if that's an open invitation ...

I dunno if even Montana is big enuf for my butt ... tho mebbe I can thin it down a bit before next year ...
I've kinda mentioned it to Son #1, about you guys out there near where we tried for elk before, and he's kinda interested ... but we both hafta squirrel away the spondulicks for the license fees ... that, and the schedule, are problems we need to solve ... we were near West Yellowstone, and frum all I hear the wolf problem is even werse now than it wuz then ... so ... kinda lookin' for an area with better potential ...

Someday tho ... if I can still get outta bed without help in the a.m. ... gonna make one more (at least) try @ huntin' MT ...

Fees will probably go up if I-161 passes. It's a bill to be voted on. Deer/Elk combo will be $900.00. You are more than welcome to come out though O. I hear the wolves hit my spot in the Gravely's pretty hard too.

Wow, I only seen 2 this year. But then #2 was all I needed. Love it when a plan comes together. Should be getting him back from the Taxi any day now. Gonna go out in the morn and see if we can find one for my stepson. Heading up by the mine. I'll be looking to fill some whitetail doe tags or maybe a big buck tag.

Well, we're thinkin' about it ... not excited about the possible price increase, but mebbe I'll win the lottery before then ...

Whutever ... it's on a list, but that list might have a few things that don't get done ... time will tell, if the checkbook balance allows ...
