Lumenocks - Friday, February 20, 2009 8:28 AM ( #1 )
Has anyone out there had the problems with lumenocks not lighting up? I have talked to several proshops that have given me some advice in trying to bend the little wire out away from the nock a bit and pull the nock itself out away from the shaft a bit also, but they still do not light consistently. I have looked into others but have not made the jump yet. I found some new ones now called Archers flame. Has anyone tried any others yet that light time and tme again? I like the idea and want some that will come on shot after shot.

I talked with the guys at Archers Flame yesterday for quite a while. We discussed the issues I have had with the lumenocks and what some of the archery pro shops have advised me to do with them to get them to work. I tried it all and still have problems with them consistently coming on at the shot. I ordered the Flames yesterday after a lengthy discussion and I will let you know what I find and how they work. I also looked at the G-5's just for being able to get them in diff colors. Pers pref. I guess. I'll let you know how these work out.

I also got my new Hawglite in yesterday for night time hog hunting. With this on my bow and the lighted fibers, those hogs will not stand a chance.

I have installed the new Archers Flame nocks into my CX arrows and so far have not had a NON light up of them. The only draw back I see so far is having to install the little dowels before hand. They have lit everytime I have shot them so far.

I am curious to know if anyone has tried to make their own lighted nocks. I have seen the video on you tube on the 'how to' and it looks pretty simple. I think I will try this cause I like to tinker, but I just wonder if someone here has tried and what results you got.

I had the exact same issues with the Lumenocks and quit using them all together. Was wondering with the Archers flame nocks did the weight difference seem to change your tuning at all?

I have used Lumenocks for several years.  I use Gold Tip arrows and have had a few issues.  With a new arrow, sometimes the two metal contacts cannot make a proper connection to the carbon in the arrow because of the film that covers it.  Take your knife and lightly scrape the opening where the Lumenock goes in.  This will remove the film and allow the metal contacts to make a proper connection.  Problem solved.

Or do what I do...when I purchase my blanks, I have them skim the nock end with the saw and then cut to length before fletching.
Love playing that string music and sending a Muzzy flying!

Me too, but can't justify 35 bucks for 1.

I have drilled wild hogs,foam,3D and layered with them and they light everytime. I even put them on my wife's crossbow bolts and those also have lit everytime. If you happen to order any, order extra dowells for other arrows. Doing just the ones that come with the nocks and breaking one off in an animal puts 1 of them out of commission. I have done 6 and want to do 6 more. Cost of dowells for a doz is 7 bucks. Check them out: archersflame.com.

I got a stupid question...With the archersflame nocks how do you turn them off? are they similar to the G5s where you bump it on a solid surface? Thanks

No, you actually will have to take the nocks out to turn them off.  They have a push, pull type shut off on them. I have since changed "AGAIN" to Easton Tracer Nocks. They have nothing to be installed into the arrow shafts at all like the Archers Flame or the po-nocks do. They work off of a magnet that gets attached either to your rest o your riser and I have not had one not light since changing to them.  They come on as a full on red or green light and after 10 sec's start to blink. The average eye will see something blinking alot easier than a solid light beam.  They run about 35 bucks for 4 and add about 23gr of weight to your arrow. They also come with practice nocks.

One thing also about Tracer Nocks is that you do not have to take them in and out of your shaft to turn them off like the rest of them. This to me is a great advantage as you will not wear your shafts or nocks out.

I was looking at getting these as so I wont loose those costly arrows and broadheads. AS I can not afford to keep loosing them like that. I think having it would help. But I am having issues finding one as each one has its flaws.

I have been using the Tracer nocks for a few yrs now and love them. As anyone knows, your eye will fix and spot a blinking light alot easier than a solid light and Tracers have that capability. After 90 sec's they will start to blink and stay lit for 90 hrs on avg. You can get them from Bass Pro shops, but read the directions on the pkg before buying them. I have spent an hr before getting all of the ones in a certain pkg to work.  Nocturnal now makes a nock also that is using the same bat pack and light as the others and is much easier to use. No internal shaft stops to add and you don't have to take the nock out to turn it off. www.DoubleTakeArchery.com for the nocturnals. Good luck.
