Late season duck hunt - Wednesday, December 30, 2009 10:40 AM ( #1 )
Well guys I'm back from my vacation in NY. Was able to get out on Sunday and had a great time.

Left the house at 5:30, cold as hell (just like I remembered) I think the temp was somewhere's around 17. Made it to the launch site around 6:15 and got the boat and gear in the water.

Headed down the Niagara River toward Lake Ontario. Set the dekes outs and strated drifting out. Shooting time was at 7:10am. Before we knew we had thousands of ducks buzzing our spread. Bluebills, Canvasbacks, Scoters, Redheads, Goldeneyes, Longtails and an occasional mallard or two.

Got the first shots off and my buddy Kevin and I dropped two scoters. Over the next few hours we ended up taking 6 long tails and two scoters. We ended our outing around 10am, since the weather turned for the worst. Wind was coming out of the southwest in the morning, then switched to the west and started blowing around 15-20mph. The waves ripped up to about 6-8ft. (ever try shooting at moving targets while feeling like your on a roller coaster?)
So we packed up and headed back up the river. Hoping that the ducks would move to calmer water. No dice there. So we decieded to pack it in and head home.

I'll try to post pics in a little while.

Hope everyone had a safe and fun X-mas.
Hunt Hard, Hunt Safe and enjoy what you got in life

Was down SW of Houston today setting beaver sets and was looking for some goose roosts. Man was I dissappointed. Saw one flock of snows, specks and blues of about 50 and one more flock of a hundred or so flying. We should have had 1000's by now with all of the cold weather up north. They must have stopped somewhere for some warming up.  LOL
