Just put in my Application - Thursday, June 04, 2009 10:04 AM ( #1 )
Well, I'm crossing my fingers, I just put in my quota hunt application for this years Florida alligator hunt. There will be 6,000 permits issued by special drawing with each permit holder being allowed 2 gator's.

I'm hoping to Kill a couple like these:

It should be a lot of fun, I expect it will be pretty hot and humid out.....might just have to go for a midnight swim to cool off

I can't imagine ever hunting them - but I'd sure like to have a chance!

My cuz down in Ocala hunts them things. He makes it sound like fun. What do you use when you hunt them?

All kidding aside Rick, There are different ways to hunt for them. you can use a bow and hunt them with a broadhead that is like a speargun head that opens up and handline them close enough to either shoot them or use a bang-stick on.

You hunt for them at night with a spot light, legal hunt time starts at 8:00 pm. My buddy and I are going to spot them and snag them with a big treble hook, pull them closer and then harpoon them. Once we get them closer from there we will gently rub the back of the gators head with a .44 mag bang stick.

Well see what happens, my buddy filled his two gator quota last year in half an hour.

I've heard big guns referred to as "cannons" - but that's really a cannon!

It's a 105mm howlitzer and I can't believe I had to go through a five day waiting period before the dealer let me take it home.

If I concealed that it would look like I was carrying a double barrel.

I believe my cuz harpoons them and then hits them with the bang stick.
