Well Jan is just about over with. It won't be long before we'll be chasing birds. Can't wait.

I so look forward to turkey season. Preseason scouting as well. There's hardly anything more exciting then hearing a gobble in the woods. In a way it's a bit more exciting than deer hunting in that you are working that bird and you can here the responses long before actually seeing the bird. Gives me goose bumps hearing them coming closer.
The freshest tracks still have feet in them.

I just got my card yesterday here in WI. I drew the first season this year which is April 13th - 17th. That's kind of a crap shoot with the weather but at least I'll get a crack at some birds that haven't been worked over. I got permission to hunt a couple of small farms this year too so I'm pretty pumped up about exploring new territory. Hopefully I can work into bowhunting them too but I'm not going to push it. I can hardly wait for spring.
Good luck, be safe and shoot straight dodgeman_29

Spring Turkey opens on 4/18 thru 5/8/11 here in Missouri, Youth portion is 4/9 & 4/10. Shooting ends at 1:00 P.M. There are plenty of birds even though the Conservation Dept says the numbers are down. Not sure that I agree with their survey, I saw poults way into the middle of Sept. while bow hunting deer. Guess time will tell, but have been seeing birds in the fields digging through the snow the last few days. I'm deffinitely getting pumped up this year. Can't wait to get the grandson out again this year, he missed his only shot last year and after the big bird he shot the year before that was kind of a dissapointed so needs the opportunity to redeem himself. Was a good lesson for him anyway, now he understands why it's called hunting, not shooting. Steve Albers
