How is your 2008 3D season going? - Saturday, March 01, 2008 11:37 PM ( #1 )
Lets hear how your 3D season is going, both Indoor and Outdoor.

My season is gaining steam after a poor start, I'm currently running in 6th place in the Hunter Division at my club with a total score of 2163/4620.  I struggled the first 3 weeks of the season this with scores under 200, but with some equipment changes and better concentration at the stake I have greatly improved my scores.  I shot a 274/420 at my shoot tonight.

I will be shooting in my first outdoor shoot of the year tomorrow at another local club.  I'll post my score tomorrow.

Attended my first outdoor 3D shoot this morning at the Saltsburg Sportsmans Club.

Started the course at 7 am, with a temp of 12 degrees.  This course was pretty humbling to say the least.  Several targets were uphill and downhill shots and some you had to shoot through trees.  As a shooter for PSE I had to shoot the competition class at this club, which meant my shots would be at a max distance of 50 yds.

I started off pretty good, hit three 5's and two 10's before committing my first goose of the day, I missed a downhill 50 yd shot on an feeding doe target.  Regained my composure and was hitting 8's and 10's the rest of the front 15.  Began the back 15 pretty good with two 12's before commiting my 2nd thru 4th goose again at uphill/downhill 50 yd shots.  I left one arrow in a brushpile somewhere on the course, they may find it when the snow melts on Mon.

After all that I managed to finish the course 200 even for a score.  Not bad for my first outdoor 3D shoot, considering the terrain and weather for the shoot.

I'll be back at my club this Sat to continue the Indoor season and on Sun for the start of the outdoor season.  I'll return to this club on the first Sun in April for shoot number 2.  Hopefully I shoot this one better.

Well off to refletch one arrow and order another dozen as I'm down to my last 2 arrows for tournament shooting

I'll be getting Carbon Force arrows by PSE.  I'll be getting 2 dozen for 3D shooting and 1 dozen for hunting.  This part of my deal with PSE, I have to shoot their stuff for both tournaments and hunting.

From what I can see, they are a pretty good arrow, I'll be posting my critique of these and other PSE products in the Bowhunting Pro Shop forum once I shoot them for awhile.

I shoot carbon express and they seem to be ok, but may give them a try.

I had a good showing at my clubs 3D shoot this evening, shot a 260/420 at 30 targets.

I'll be shooting my clubs first outdoor shoot tommorrow from 7am until 2PM.  I'll let youknow how I do.

Got a call today from the Saltsburg club where I shot last Sun, they found my arrow after the snow melted

Had a great shoot on Sunday.

We had a 30 target course outdoors as well as the 30 target indoors.

I shot a 260/300 on the outdoor course and 249/420 on the indoor course.

Shooting 60 targets is a rough way to spend an afternoon at the range, but for us compettion guys, its a way of life.

I had a mediocre showing this weekend for 3D scores

Shot a 222 and 224 in two rounds of Indoor 3D shooting on Saturday.  I had made some minor changes to my setup - switched to my Mossy Oak X for tournament shooting.

I went to my 2nd Outdoor shoot of the year and did rather poorly.  Shot a 198 with having to score 0 for the last 3 targets, as I had lost one arrow and obliterated the remaining 3 on the course.  I'm struggling with these outdoor courses(always did), I have trouble guessing the yardage(always seem to over-judge the yardage) - big reason I use a range finder when hunting

I'll be making further and final changes to my setup this week, get my new sight, rest, stabilizer and arrows from PSE.  Hopefully I get back to my original form before too long.

Good thing I didn't attend the national shoot in Cleveland this weekend

Was back to my usual form again this weeend.

Shot 3 rounds of 30 Indoor 3D this past saturday and faired well.

I shot a 235, 248 and 267 respectively this weekend.  I have one more week of the indoor season left, and am still in 6th place toward Shooter of the Year, I'll get em next year.

Will be switching over to Outdoor 3D in April, and will be attending several 600 round matches as well.

Good luck to anyother tournament archers out there.

So I went to my first 3-D shoot and shot a 178/180.  It was a 9 target shoot with 2 arrows a target.  They did a 3 score target with the small center of vitals being 10, bigger part of vitals being 8 and then the rest of the vitals being 5.  I was shooting really well, I took the fletching off of 2 arrows and hit the other arrow 2 other times.  I had a blast and will definitely have to do it some more.

They had a turkey that you had to sit and shoot and then a raised platform hog and a laying deer that you had to shoot from your knees.  It was a realistic shoot and I am going to start hitting up some other shoots in the off season.

RE: How is your 2008 3D season going? - Sunday, April 06, 2008 7:45 PM ( #12 )
I attended the first outdoor shoot for the month of April at the Saltsburg Sportsman's club today.

The weather started out in the mid-40's then warmed up threoughout the sunny morning.

Shot a 30 target course and managed to leave only one arrow in the woods this month, buried it 3 inches into a tree behind a 50 yd downhill shot.  I managed only 3 gooses this month(had 4 gooses on this course last month) and managed to score the exact same score as last month 200/300.

I'll be shooting at my club next sunday and then will be on the road again throughout the month.

Had my best day of the outdoor season yesterday at my clubs monthly outdoor 3D shoot.

I shot 225/300 without missing any targets for the first time in the outdoor season

Unless they change plans on me again at work for my Iowa trip, I'll be at 2 shoots next weekend trying to better my current score.
