Hot on the trail

Tom and I are on the trail of a massive 12 pointer. We couldn't find him at all last year though we knew he was around. He's been seen 4 times this past week and he's chasing. I'm heading up in a few hours and will spend a few days over the food plot. Tom will join me tomorrow. Wish us luck we're going to need it, this boy will not come easy.

Good luck! Go get that big boy and show him off to us mortals! Kent

You know that they don't get that big by being stupid. The big boy didn't show but he's left plenty of sign. There are big scraps and some monster rubs all over the property. I had doe all around while on stand each afternoon. The mornings have been slow with one exception. After sitting on stand without moving for hours I began daydreaming. I suddenly heard a crack and snapped my head to the left and there stood a big mature buck standing broadside at about 20 yards. I don't know how he got so close without me spotting or hearing him. He had to be at least four and a half. There were only two problems. First he had only one antler , but what an antler it was. A heavy wide four point. Had he had both antlers he would be a real trophy. The second and biggest problem was that when I snapped my head he pinned me. He stomped his right hoof, let out a wheeze and bolted across the field blowing all the way to insure that every deer within earshot was aware of the danger. The following evening I was in my usual stand and Tom was on the other side of the field about 110 yards away and this unicorn buck walked right into the field between the two of us. He walked around in a circle for a minute or two sniffing the ground intently only to walk back out from where he had come. That's it for the regular bow season here. Next Saturday the gun season begins. We';; see what happens then.

Glad you had a good time! I would mount me a unicorn buck.....no matter how many points he had. Those are few and far in between!

Good luck bro, sorry your bow season ended but gun season sounds like it should be interesting with the bucks running does now.
