Gary---Had a note on the NAHC site from the guy in Mandan that I'm taking on the bow rut hunt for elk in September in Wyoming and he said it is BAD. He thinks the pheasants are going to be hit particularly hard and the big game are not doing well either!

Yeah, I bet the flooding will hurt all animals up there. I see the Red crested today by the tv. They are just getting hammered bad. The uplands will hurt worse i'm afraid with no place to go and all of their food getting washed away.

Actually, the fessunts were doin' OK ... sorta ... still plenty of birds around, tho mostly on the paved roads becuz the snow wuz too deep for 'em to find gravel anyplace else ... and we've got so dang many deer that -- despite some winterkill we know about -- they looked OK ... sorta also ... until this last 12-18" of blizzard we got on Monday ... Now, I dunno how they'll do ... tail end of the winter, when they're already stressed, and now they've gotta dig even more for survival ... could be not so good ... Our local flood (we're on the Knife River) came and went ... about as bad as the biggie in '97, same part of town (south of the RR trax only) but Bismarck and Fargo are havin' a lot of trouble with the water ... they shut down the releases @ Garrison Dam to almost nothin' and the water has gone down a bunch in south Bismarck ... there were a couple of MAJOR ice jams that held it up, and they've been blasting and even rumored that the USAF would bring down some bombers from Minot ... I don't think that happened, becuz the surface charges seem to have broken it up ... Fargo, otoh, is still in deep doo-doo ... forecase earlier was for a near record 40-foot crest ... today or tomorrow ... and Grand Forks has about a week or so to wait, but their prior forecast of even higher than the 54' 6" record of '97 has been reduced to about 52' 6" or so, and they had already added three feet of clay to the top of their 60' dikes ... Minot is OK, for now, I think ... but the POTUS declared the entire state a disaster emergency area, and all but about four counties (includin' my home county, where our CRP and big bucks are located) are not in any major danger of serious flooding ... Once we see whut the G&F folks have to say about the populations and prospects, I'll pass it along, in case anyone here has an idea they'd like to try Nodak for feathers, fins, or fur ... (The fishin' should be GOOD, since Lake Sakakawea is gonna go UP this year ... )

My thoughts are with you guys and others in surrounding states. I have been watching the reports of the flooding every day and feel terrible for the communities that are being impacted. In the Southern states, we are experienced in natural disasters, (hurricanes & tropical storms). It is great to see people in the community join and work together filling sand bags and other measuers to help each other. You do not see anyone there looting, robbing, protesting, taking advantage of others, etc. Just decent , hard working folks doing what has to be done.

Try and do that in the mid south and you'll get hurt. They want everyone else to do the work to save their asses and then **** cause you did not do it fast enough.

Yeah, Beulah is correct ... our flooding here is about done ... unless the 12-18" of new snow from Monday's blizzard gives us another one when it melts ... Bismarck, Fargo and GF are the main problem areas now ... three of our kids are in the F/WF flood area, but all are out of the worst places, and are helpin' with sandbaggin' ...

OTU---From what the paper that BTR (NAHC name) sent me on the net said, all the farmers in the Regent area have been feeding the thousands of pheasants all winter out in that area and their only problem is hundreds are getting killed out on the highways!!!
