Mont: Congrats on the buck, but sorry to hear about the coyotes. Those pesky critters sure are a pain in the ace. Can't wait to see the pics. Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve

ya it made me sick...i have never had a deer taken like that.
what a waste of good meat....i LOVE deer steak.
i had 1 clients deer touched a bit around the entrance wound....but this was a eye opener.
i salvaged what i could & set power snares leading into the thicket it was laying in.
yotes are already hangin in the barn
....& there is gona be a **** pile more strung up by spring!

Go and get 'em Monty. I have lost a few over the last couple of yrs to yote's. Late night hits for me stink. I know they were good hits but...................darkness fell and decided to leave them for morning only to find hairballs and bones.

Man, I've never heard of them pouncing on a dead deer that fast! I know what you'll be doing with any spare time you get this winter!

ya thinned some yotes out...but in this valley its hard to make a serious dent. still not sure if it was yotes. that is alot of meat for only 2 hours...even for a big pack we seem to be getting more carnivores all the time. we have always had the odd bear/cougar wandering around valley neighbour chased a bear this past spring on a quad . also 20 minutes away there was a 145lb cougar caught a in a coyote trap a month ago.

I doubt that it was a cat for one reason. They will usually feed for awhile and then cover it up and feed at least one more time on it before moving on. It could have been a bear, but my guess it was yotes and it's amazing how fast a pack of coyotes can pick a deer clean!

ya i hear ya. hard to say...cat covers up food....unless its scared off before it has chance to "stash" it i lost a 750 lb heifer not 1/4 mile from the deer fiasco 2 weeks after. 2 days later it was gone it was carried away.....not eaten there wandered around general area but no sign of head, spine ,shoulder blades....coyotes don't drag that **** off too far. about 10 years ago i had a cougar coming into farm yard & taking 125lb lambs I found later they where eating them 1.5 mile down rough thick ravines. who knows i have seen there tracks on my place some people have seen them....a bow hunter on my places swears one crossed the ravine below him hope some day to get good picture of one.

That heifer scenario sure makes it sound like a big cat! Have you not been able to find any significant tracks in the area where the deer and heifer were taken? One other question for ya Monty. Is there a season on cats where you live or are they protected or is it a kill them legally any time you see one deal?
