Got my first buck

I drew buck tags for the first time last year. I really wanted a buck before I turned 50 which I will do this October. I saw a massive bodied buck chasing 6 does but couldn't get close enough to shoot. I was out hunting every possible minute and saw a lot of does. Had my heart set on a buck though. We have a month to hunt whitetail, so I could afford to wait. If I didn't get a shot at a buck, I could always shoot a doe. Meet in the freezer is really what I'm after. The only reason that we applied for buck tags is because we hadn't filled all our doe tags for 2 years because all we saw were bucks. It wasn't a "monster" buck, only a 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer, but it was a nice first buck for a hunter that's only been deer hunting for 5 years. And yes, I'm hugging the deer..........lol.

There is nothing better than being outdoors whether or not you're hunting(but you can always say you're scouting).

Nothing wrong with that buck, the first one always holds a special place in our memories. Size don't matter in this case, the thrill of the hunt finally getting a bead on him all add to the memories and regardless of whether it's a forked or a 12 point, it's still the biggest buck you've ever gotten to that point. Congratulations your persistence paid off. May you have many more similar stories to share with friends and loved ones, I for one always enjoy hearing of others successes. Steve Albers

Congrats Marie! Nice looking first buck. And as others have said...bigger than my first!
Love playing that string music and sending a Muzzy flying!
