OK ... firstly ... this is NOT an example of Langley's shooting skills ... wish it wuz, tho ... (and also apologize for poor image quality ... fone foto, wanted to capture it prior to losin' the chance, so took whut I could manage @ the moment ... )
Got to messin' around with checkin' the zero whilst she wuz on a break for lunch back @ the house (BIL is huntin' deer in the Badlands, so only SIL @ home ... nice visit, free lunch, and a good day for shootin' ... except for the mosquitoes!)
So ... first shot wuz a bit right, went 12 clicks left, second shot more than I wanted to go left, so six clicks back, and fire for effect ... threw one flyer I gnu I jerked, so put a fourth one onto the paper for a three-shot group ... not exactly cheatin' and good enuf for me, so this is whut I got ...
Sub-0.75"-MOA ... (I later moved it two more clicks right to put it over the bullseye ... )
Now, the important part of this exercise (to
Moi Ownself, @ least) is the following fact:
For years (40 @ least), I've sorta bought into the idea expressed LONG ago by sumbuddy writin' for sum shooting magazine or sum such place, that this particular make/model of rifle wuz "not as good, in general, overall, dependable accuracy capabilities" as "better" rifles on the market ... (my "quote" marks, NOT a direct reiteration, merely a summary of how I remember the concept as presented by the writer/reviewer ... )
Today wuz the FIRST TIME EVER that I've taken a bit more time to check it out ... better rest, more patience, yaddayaddayadda ...
THEREFORE, I must respectfully disagree with that long-ago condemnation of this make/model of specific item of ordnance ... this rifle will shoot better than most of us are capable of doing, in any given hunting situation ...
Eh?
OH ... BTW ...
Savage, 340C, .222 Remington, factory loads, 110 yards ...
