Heading to Missouri in 5 hrs. Pretty pumped about seeing some relatives I havn't seen in over 30 yrs. I got all the deer camp goodies packed. Hot pickled eggs, pickled fish, Cookies, elk roasts. BBQ elk ribs, Beer, Tequila, and the poker case. Might even take the rifle out of the case. My cuz said the small bucks were starting to chase does but not the bigger ones yet. Should hit the rut pretty good for next week I figger. Time to go to bed and dream about swamp donkeys. See ya'll in about a week.

Hey Rik, what part of Missouri you gonna be in. If not too far from us maybe we could manage to lay eyeballs on each other for a few. Regardless have a good time and get a big one, there are some good ones here. Steve Albers

Stevealb, I was hunting between Mound City and St. Joseph. I didn't see the big one. The night before the season I found out they have a 4 pt. rule there. No problem with that. Opening morn I seen 7 bucks. 4 of them were 8 pts. I could have shot 2 that were about the same size as the one I shot here. I passed on them and didn't see any legal bucks after that. I was the only one to pass on a legal buck. Unfortunately the rest of the gang apparently can't shoot straight. 12 hunters and 0 bucks. At the time of my departure anyway. I think they missed 5 or 6 bucks. Some hard shots, some easy. We did get 5 does while I was there. I shot one and gave it to my uncle. One cuz shot one, and another shot 3. My cuz Al told my cuz Mike {who goes elk hunting all the time} that he can't hit them small deer. So the next day he shot a doe {in the head at 200 yds} and 2 at 300 yds. thru the lungs. He is a pretty good shot. I had a blast though. It was a great hunt and had a good time with the relatives. I will be back.

Hey Rik, sounds like you had a good time. We haven't seen much of the big fellas since the shooting started. Son shot a slick head Monday after school and Son-in-law shot one last night just before dark, both just off our drive. Maybe I'm hunting the wrong places, at least that's what my wife keeps telling me. Anyway, glad you had a good time and some good visiting and made it home safe. Catch ya later my friend.
