Going Deer Hunting today!

Long story short, I ran into a guy who owns a local winery and has a depredation permit. I hope I can get out there this evening. I want a nice deer in velvet if at all possible. Will post pics later if I get one.
Love playing that string music and sending a Muzzy flying!

I got to the winery and saw my buddy Malcolm and he gave me a sample of his wares and took me on a tour of the grounds in his truck. Pointing out the different grapes and letting me know where he sees the most deer. Unfortunately I have to be added to the names allowed on the depredation permit and he will have to call that in on Monday. But I did get to see several does and a small forky horn. He asked me to drop anything that walked! I have a friend who manages a local community kitchen and he will most likely get most of the meat.

Good luck on your hunts out there bud. I was afforded the same thing here on an organic vegetable farm. The one problem was that when I hunted it,it was late spring. The guy told me to shoot everything but turkeys and foxes. I could not bring myself to shoot any deer at that time. The does still were carrying fawns and the bucks just had knots for horns. I could not bring myself to shoot either.

Bowman, I know you are near Char. Where is the winery? I could help you out if things get overwhelming!!

Kent, The winery is in between Winston Salem and Yadkinville. I am in Greensboro but I work in Winston. Only about a 15-20 minute jaunt after work. Woohoo! I may give you a shout if I see that the population needs some serious thinning! The owner wants me to shoot everything brown, field dress them and let the carcass lay to bring in some coyotes. I told him that will bring on a whole new peck of problems!! I will leave some for the coyotes but he does not really know what he is asking. Dave

Nice deal, Bowman!! And if you really get "overwhelmed," give my son a shout. He's over in Carthage and still looking to get his 1st deer!! Nah, really, good luck!
