Have a good time in Manitoba- hey grow some BIG bears up there. I've bowhunted bears in Alberta, New Brunswick & Newfoundland- Alberta definitely had some big bears, but Newfie was the prettiest. Two pieces of advice- no mechanical heads & bring a ThermaCell for the bugs. Adhereing to this advice will save your hunt....... no two ways about it !! 'Dawg
May your arrow fly true & avoid all timber

Dawg: Thanks for the advice and for the nice sentiment about having a good time. I appreciate it. Now, I'm not trying to start a fight with any mechanical broadhead advocates out there, but I will never use a mechanical head as my broadhead of choice. I simply don't trust them. I know... I know... they've come a long way and all that, but a fixed blade head will never fail to operate when shot at a big game animal if used properly. Mechanicals simply cannot make that claim 100% of the time so that is why I will never use them. I'll be taking my Thermacell along just in case, but the bugs probably won't be out yet. Spring is late in coming this year in Manitoba so according to my outfitter the bugs shouldn't be that much of a pest. Even when spring comes in on time, Monty claims that the bugs aren't bad in May. I fully trust him, but I'm taking the Thermacell anyway. Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve

Hey jimgiven. I am overhere in central Pa. I know the feeling about no spring bear hunt! Your in prime bear hunting there in Pike county though. We have a fair number of bear taken in the surrounding counties here although I hunted in Clinton county last year with no luck (the weather was terrible-rained every day-fogged in).
