Do you use phone cards - Tuesday, May 26, 2009 8:42 PM ( #1 )
I am looking at using phone cards while I'm in BC to call home. Any suggestion on what phone cards to buy or stay away from? Thanks car

Car,
Can you get one from your long distance carrier that you have at home?

I don't have a long distance carrier. I use my cell. I figured I would just buy a phone card at WalMart. Has anyone went that route?

just be sure it says it works FROM Canada - I don't know the drill, but I know we had a problem with one we bought in the US and tried to used in Mexico (I know Mexico-US relations are different than Canada-US relations, so this might not be a problem) - just check it out first.

duck,
where are you going to find a ph in the bush anyways?  You're suppose to be hunting not jawjacking on the ph. man.  LMAO  Depending on your cell provider, you may be able to use it when you are there. I know that both my AT&T and Sprint ones work up there. You may even be able to add international to your service just for that one month and then take it off when you get back.

Once we are done hunting we will be staying one night in Prince George. That is when I was going to call home and let my wife know how the hunt went. That is on the 16th. We leave the US on the 8th. Long time to not be calling home. My wife don't like when I'm gone that long.

If gettin' a month of expanded service on your cell doesn't werk ... buy a phone card in Canada (@ Waldo's ... been a long time since I ever used one, but those were the ones I had, when we did ... decent price and reliable, and no more difficult to use than any others out there ... ) and I'm sure it'd werk there, tho you might get charged twice the price to call another country (USofA) ... but those would werk, I'd think ...

Car---Just tell her you'll let her know if you croak, LOL!!!  I will be surprised if you have any cell phone capabilities during the actual hunt.  Buy an AT&T card with a lot of minutes because they take a lot off nowadays just to make the connection, if you think you will have access to a land line phone at any other time.  We only had an emergency satellite phone on our trip into the bush.  You should have a good hunt because the bears were just starting to hit our baits the last few days.  Give it another week and you should have a lot coming in.  One thing I learned on my hunt is that they are sluggish for a week or two when the come out of the den.  If the weather is still cold, they slow right down almost like they are still hibernating.  It's like if you have the dreaded bugs and need the Thermacell you will have good bear hunting and fishing.  All of our Thermacells stayed in the travel bags as there were hardly any bugs out!

I picked up a phone card tonight online. It is called CICI. From Canada to USA it is 2.5 cents with no connect charge. The only other charge is if I use a pay phone. They charge .50 additional to the call. I got a 200 min card for $5.00.

No baiting in BC. It will be all spot and stalk. We should be hitting it just right if the weather doesn't turn bad.As a bonus I will also have wolf tag.

Count down :)

I forgot you were not hunting over bait stations.  Your hunt should be fun and they should be active.  Good luck!!!

Good luck on your hunt car. Get you a wolf as a bonus man. They make good rags for washing your truck.  LMAO

Good idea. Then you can keep shooting it some more.
