I'll throw my vote in for scent free. Wash clothes in scent free detergent with no UV additives, wash myself before EVERY hunt with scent free goods, spray down with scent free spray. Wear scent lock or XScent clothing, or both and don't worry about the rest!

My outfitter this yr for bear told me not to worry about cover scents. They have a secret cover scent spray they will spray us down with before going on stand. Hummmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!! Kind of scary huh?   LMAO!!!!!!

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I trust him wholeheartedly. I have talked and met several of his clients and all gave him rave reviews. Just got to hope the weather works for us and not against. Last yr's  weather kind of messed up the first 2 weeks out east for bear season. Too warm and bears did not hit the baits until after dark. I'll make my bro-in-law the star of the show, he'll be with me on this hunt.  LMAO!!

After washing all my hunting clothing in scent free wash I store them in large plastic bags with a few pine branches.
The freshest tracks still have feet in them.

You have to be careful when putting items like that in your bags for storage. If you hunt somewhere else where pines or whatever are not abundant, then you introduced a smell that is not native to the area. I use the fresh dirt scent waffers usually with mine in the bags, but had to wash the smell out for the bear hunt.

  Gary,
Why'd you have to wash the "earth scent" out for bear??  I use the same stuff (deer hunting), just wouldn't think the smell of dirt would matter.  Just curious...

I hunt in heavy pine areas so that's not a problem for me. In an ideal situation I place my tree stand in a pine adjacent to oak feeding areas or in a pine in a bottleneck between feeding and bedding areas. I've learned a little something in the last 46 seasons.

I was curious why the dirt smell would not work also and my outfitter told me that their thick dense forests up there do not have much of a dirt semll in them so it would be out of place. I use it all the time here in Tx and in Wi.  Works for me all the time as a cover scent. She even cautioned me about the pads for my ThermaCell also to not bring any for it either. They do it for a living, so I will follow their directions.

I use to use pine bows also way back when to get my clothes to that north central Wi smell. It worked out good. Also hang my clothes now days on a line strung between trees at my place there in Wi to get the surrounding smells in them along with drapping them over pine trees. Gotta love them crawly things in your clothes at 5am.  LMAO!!!!!!!

Oh, ok, Gary.  That makes sense.  I just figured dirt was dirt!!!  As fara s the thermacells, the unscented ones shouldn't be a problem I was told.
But, like you said, listen to the guide/outfitter!!  That's the biggest mistake hunters make....not listening to their hosts!!!
Are you hunting KTADDN???  You said she and I saw an outfitter run by a woman, thought abot booking with her...
