Bull elk down

Redemption is at hand. I was on my way to my stand this morn. Just as I was about to cross the fence to cross a hay field An elk bugled right in front of me. I ducked back behind a junper bush and looked through the darkness. I couldn't see him so I bugled and he answered back. I then picked him out across the field in the coulee. I thought he was one of the small ones I seen last nite so I cow called him. No reaction. Tried again. No reaction. Then as it got a little lighter I seen that there were about 30 of them out there. I was dealing with the herd bull and he wasn't going to leave his honey's for me. I tried circling around them and cut them off but they must have caught my scent and started moving out pretty quick. I hurried up to my stand but they were gone across the field and he was bugleing his but off. Just then I seen a small bull back where they were trying to follow the herd. I ducked down and cow called a couple times. He started following the herd and I called again. He disapeard over the hill and I called a few more times. He came a running over right at me. My heart started to go pitter-patter. He hung up about 70 yds and I called again. He jumped the fence and stopped about 40 yds. somewhat broadside looking right at me. I released and watched my arrow sink 1/2 way into his chest. A perfect shot I might add. He spun around and ran right into the fence. It took him out, and visa-versa. He crappy flopped for awhile and got back up. Ran about 30 yds. and went down to his knees. Recovered and went another 10 yds. and down he come. Oh I forgot to mention that just as I was drawing back the cell phone turned it self on. Perfect timeing. Thats why he stopped and looked right at me. I called the wife and I was so excited I couldn't hardly breath right. After dressing it and taking some picts. I ran home to get help. Called the rancher and he said I could drive right up to it. My help is here now so I'm off to retrieve. Post picts. later. WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!

Well, elk is in the cooler and I am pickled. All my buds are asking the same ?. What kind of ringtone do you use to call in elk? Is that some kind of Wisconsin secret trick or what?I am way beyond posting all the picts at the same time now so I'll do it one at a time.

Here he is. The biggest bull in Mt. as far as I'm concerned. With all the equipment for advertising purposes. Except the Dead down wind, because that stuff is invisable. My PSE Firestorm bow, with the Wallmart carbon arrows, and Spitfire broadheads. 3 blade 125 grains. My bugle, whitch I'll have to look up the make later. And the Hoochie Mamma cow call, that was instramental to the kill.

This pict. was taken from where he dropped back to where I shot him. If you look real close you can see the tree stand in the big pine. I was sitting at the base of that tree and he was on this side of that gray washout. About 40 yds. shot. then he ran about 50 yds. to this pt.

OK, now that I look at the pict. it is hard to see the stand. Right in the center of the pict. there is a tall pinnhead tree and a tall wider tree. With a little Juniper bush this side of it. In the wider tree is a small light colored spot whitch is my stand. And the Juniper is where he stopped and made me call again.

Thanx guys. It was an awsome experience. Now I need to go cut him up. He's hanging in the meat cooler over at my buds that helped me get him out of the field.

We were nieghbors.

I went out this morn to see if I could stick a whitetail doe. My pard was supposed to go to my waterhole stand where I shot my elk. I got there early. About 1 hr. before light. Cold front was coming through and nearly froze me before it even got light. Sposed to snow today in higher elevations. May have to go after some big mulies tomorrow. Anyway, My pard never showed. As I was coming out I circled around to take a distant look at the stand where Pard was supposed to be. At this time I didn't know he wasn't there. I got real excited cuz there were 8 elk right there. With a 5 pt. bull in the herd. Boy is he ever gonna catch heck.
