Bow question

I want to start bowhunting so I can get my big game fix before waterfowl season. I found a brand new PSE Deerhunter with fiber optic sight, peep sight, rest, carbon arrows, field points, broadheads, release, stabilizer, wrist sling and hard case. The shop will install everything, build the arrows, paper tune, set the top pin at 20 yards and test the final product. It costs $400. It sounds like a good deal, but can anyone tell me if the bow is any good?

My buddy has one it is a cheap bow but to each his own, it really depends on how much you can spend. If you are just wanting a starting place then it would be a good starting point.

Many times folks will upgrade to a new bow and leave their old bow in consignment at your local archery shop. I would look around for a situation like that. Most are already set, tuned, and include everything you mentioned. You might get a better bow for around the same price. You also might check your local Craigslist.
Love playing that string music and sending a Muzzy flying!

ORIGINAL: smytyk I want to start bowhunting so I can get my big game fix before waterfowl season. The PSE Deerhunter bow is a great bow for someone looking to begin bowhunting. $400 is a great deal for the complete package you mention. This bow will help you get into bowhunting and will be easy to tune and shoot for the begining bowhunter. Stay away from mechanical broadheads with this bow however, your speed will be approx 204 fps at 55# and a 27 inch draw, your KE will only be 35#(not adaquate enough with mechanicals, but enough to take a whitetail with a well placed arrow under 40 yards. I would suggest, if budget allows, finding a 2008 PSE Thunderbolt X. This bow is also a great starter bow for the beginning bowhunter but delivers substantially more speed and KE. This one retails around $600. If you have any more questions give me a call at 412-482-0510 or 724-463-3664, and I'll try and help out good luck
