How many of you guys shoot Blazer vanes? I fletched up some arrows last spring with them and couldn't get my broadheads to fly worth a darn. They do shoot great with field points. I ended up having to go with 4" feathers to get my broadhead to fly like darts. dodgeman_29

Hey Dodge, I shoot them on my Beman MFX 400 shafts with a Muzzy MFX 100 head and they shoot like darts. I love'em. You probably already have, but just make sure your shaft spine is the correct stiffness for your draw weight. That sometimes makes a difference on accuracy, and the longer fletching you have may be enough to overcome an underspined shaft. Otherwise, use what works for YOU. Don't get caught up in marketing. 4" feathers are somewhat slower for arrow speed, but they are the best stabilizers there are. Just be sure to keep them dry. If it works for you, that is what matters! Kent

I shoot Carbon Express Maxima Hunter shafts with 100 grain Wasp Boss Bullet broadheads. I have the right spine stiffness. I do shoot fingers and I'm thinking because of that I must need a little longer fletching to stabilize my arrows when using broadheads. I'm not going to overthink this, I'll sacrifice arrow speed for accuracy any day. I'll stick to shooting blazers in the off months when I shoot in our video league, they do fly awesome with field tips. Good Luck, be safe and shoot straight dodgeman_29

dodgeman_29: You may also want to look into Gateway Feather's new Rayzr. The Rayzr is made out of specially-cut feathers. I have several here at home that I am going to eventually try on my XX78 Super Slam shafts. The feather design should be just as accurate, if not more accurate -- due to the forgiveness properties of feathers -- as the Blazer Vanes. To save money while experimenting, start by purchasing a 12-pack of the Rayzrs for $6.85 from Gateway Feathers and make up four arrows to see if the feathered version works better than the Blazer Vanes. Here's a link: http://www.gatewayfeathers.com/2009-rayzr-feathers.html Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve

dodge: You're welcome. The Rayzr comes in a variety of colors. Just click on the color of choice and that will take you to the correct page for that particular color. I noticed that if you click on "Buy It Now" the web page your browser lands on only offers a few color choices. I really like the white barred version the best. I currently shoot two 5-inch Right Wing white barred feathers and one 5-inch Right Wing white cock feather from Gateway Feathers on my XX78s. I've shot Gateways for years and years and never had a single problem with them. Good Luck! Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve

Steve: I went to Gateway's website and checked out the Razyr feathers. I'm definitely going to try them. I kind of dig those red, white and blue ones. They're twice as much as plain colors but they are cool looking. I like white fletching too though. I'm using two 4" right wing blue feathers and a 4" right wing yellow cock feather right now. I got a couple of huge bags of those colors at a bow shoot dirt cheap from a vendor that was going out of business. Thanks again for the tip on the Razyrs.

dodgeman, I have the same arrows as you with the exception I shoot the Wasp 100 gr Jackhammers and have no problems. Are your arrows full length or cut to your draw length? Mine are 28.25in long and fly like rockets out of a 60lb Diamond Rock.

Hey Gary, Mine are cut to 27.5 and I shoot 60lbs through a whisker biscuit out of my Hoyt 38 Pro. I'm really happy with the set up I have. I don't think my arrows can fly any straighter.
