Bear kill shots

So... I have picked up a bear tag for my hunt 3rd season this year. I have not had a chance at a bear before....so a little help would be great. I'm taking along my S&W .44 (model 629, 8 3/8 in barrel, scoped) as well as my 30-06. If I can take it with my pistol, I would like that chance...but not opposed to my rifle either. 180gr BT in my 30-06 or 325gr sp in the .44 Where on the bear is my best shot placement. Am I trying to break shoulders, heart/lung shot or just shoot for vitals? I do have a guide as well as my dad should a back up be needed, so I am not fearful of that. These are Colorado black bear, not a full grown griz or anything, not that they can be any less dangerous. also..... What cuts of meat do I want to cook in camp? LOL Thx M

I strongly suggest double lungs...you need to hit both lungs. do not try to "break the bear down" with a shoulder shot.

I thought the main vein was lower than that.
If possible , wait for the front leg to be stepping forward. It opens up the vitals more.
